Federal judge throws out Mississippi's latest abortion law
Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. - A federal judge has thrown out a Mississippi law that bars early second trimester abortions at abortion clinics.

U.S. District Judge Tom S. Lee ruled the law unconstitutional in an order made public Wednesday. Last year, Lee temporarily blocked enforcement of the law, which would have required patients to go to hospitals or outpatient surgical facilities for the procedure.

The state contended the law, which would have taken effect July 1, 2004, was enacted to move early second trimester abortions from abortion clinics to facilities better equipped to ensure the safety of patients.

The law barred abortions at the clinics starting at 13 weeks' gestation. Previously, abortions were allowed at the clinics at up to 16 weeks' gestation.

4. By today's standards,
Reagan, Nixon, Goldwater, etc, would have been liberal, secular, atheists.

There is NOBODY who can compare to this administration.

7. A hollow victory
As the sunherald article notes, the state of Mississippi has only one clinic where abortions are performed. I'd post a link to a Mississippi "pro-life" site, but it's too depressing.

8. Tom Lee - who'da thunk it
I knew Tom Lee when I started practicing law in Scott county, Ms.

I remember him griping about the Ms. Legal Services taking cases that should have gone to the private bar. sheesh!
