Bush as a Uniter -- of Diverse Democrats
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/01/AR2005060101798.html

The Democrats have lost the past six congressional elections and two straight presidential races. So why is Rep. Jan Schakowsky, a Chicago liberal, so happy?

At the annual meeting of the Campaign for America's Future, a celebration of all things liberal, Schakowsky took the stage yesterday to the sound of "We are Family" and then sang a line and danced.

"It's so bad here in Washington that it's actually good for us," she said to laughter from a thousand liberal activists in the Washington Hilton ballroom. "It's starting to feel like 1994 when the Republicans took over the House and the Senate, and now the tables are turning with a vengeance."

That overstates things. After all, the Senate Democratic leader says it will take a "miracle" to reclaim that chamber. But Democrats do have something in common with the Republicans of 1994: Unified in their opposition to the president, they have swallowed, for now, their intraparty differences. Even the ideologues are on their best behavior.

2. 1994 didn't just happen--it was made to happen
Gingrich orchestrated a nation-wide campaign to take Congress in one of the most brilliant campaigns I've seen. If the Democrats are hoping it will just accidentally happen for us because people are fed up, they're wrong. We need a leader to lead a campaign the way Gingrich did, or 2006 will be no different than any other election year.

3. exactly ... we all thought that because people were
fed up with * , of course Kerry would win

wrong, the way they played up Kerry at the democratic convention as a war hero, the captain of our ship ... blah blah blah

the only reason they stole the election was because everyone knew it was a close race, they cant steal the next election if going into election day the polls show a blow-out

that means it start now ... what have the democrats and Dean done so far?

not much in my view

4. hmmmmm.....
This article hits me as kind of snarky - note how the first three paragraphs all emphasize the word "liberal", the second doing it in what appears to be sarcastic fashion - "...a celebration of all things liberal..."

Maybe I'm just being touchy this morning, but this somehow comes off as taunting to me. This liberal says - screw the Post. We're going to reclaim our liberal title from the demonization of the right and rub your goddamn noses in it.

5. The problem is...............
Newt did it by targeting a few corrupt Dems and painting the whole party as being the same.
Too many of today's Dems bend over backwards to keep from offending repubs, come out on their behalf (even after they are exposed), appease and enable repubs, shrink when repubs say 'fuck off' or raise their voice, not call a liar a liar, in total denial at the prospect that repubs actively rig elections, etc., etc.......

I really hate the feeling of defeatism. but I have raised up too many times only to be smacked by reality.
