Civil Rights Group Plans Bush Judge Attack (Brown)
WASHINGTON - Renewing the struggle over
President Bush's judicial picks, a civil rights group intends to launch a limited ad campaign this week attacking Janice Rogers Brown as a "radical judge" unworthy of confirmation to the appeals court.

The ad says Brown "threatens to turn back the rights we've fought so hard to protect ... health and safety, equality,
Social Security."

The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights plans to air the commercial in Rhode Island, Nebraska and Maine, states represented by senators the group hopes to sway. The commercial also will air on cable television in the Washington, D.C., area, according to Mistique Cano, a spokeswoman for the group.

The organization declined to say how much money it will spend to show the commercial.

3. and the reicht will do the standard counter
of " the politics of personal destruction" or "they are far out leftists"

Hopefully the message is becoming clearer. It seems like it is with the polls and such.

5. I was on the Yahoo boards last night

and some RWers called me and the Democratic party racist for opposing Rice, Thomas and Brown.

My response was that I was about competent people, period.

Skin color has nothing to do with it.

Unfortunately, the "racist" meme has taken over all conversation when it comes to incompetent Black judges and federal appointees.

8. That is EXACTLY how Rove and Co planned it!! They look for the
most rightwing, least qualified, minority nominies and then claim racism when they are challenged. It does not matter how unqualified or unbiased they may be...the only thing they will rant about is their minority status. That is what they will shout about when talking about the opposition challenges.
It is a no-lose plan for them. The Dems have to be willing to take the heat and stand up for their principles

9. They called you a racist for oppossing Thomas, et al...
but I'll bet you were/are an enthusiastic supporter of Thurgood Marshall, MLK, John Conyers, and Barack Obama.

Thomas, Brown, and Rice are sellouts who have no sense of decency, compassion, or honor. They oppose everything good and decent, and deserve any ridicule they receive.

4. This is what it has to come to now
Since Bush refuses to consider moderates to the courts and any use of the filibuster will provoke a showdown, now every nominee to a higher court that is controversial will become like a mini political campaign.

It is sad that it has to come to this because people are putting their ideology over their duty to uphold the Constitution's plan to create a government of Checks and Balances.

I'm not sure what to think here.

6. Civil rights groups are mostly back people organization and since they're
the one who is running ads, I think black people will listen to them more. Republicans needs wedge issues, just like they did with everything else. They want Black people's vote, what better way to do this other then, using black people. I am so sick of these basters using people, this all wrong and sick! Have I told you, how much I hate republicans?
