State GOP demands Spokane mayor step down

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The state Republican Party joined Spokane County GOP leaders on Thursday in demanding that embattled Mayor James E. West, once one of the party's top elected officials, resign in the wake of a homosexual sex scandal.

West, a former state Senate majority leader, has said he will stay and fight allegations that he misused his current office and sexually abused two boys decades ago.

"As Republicans, we hold all elected officials to the highest standards of the community, and we cannot condone irresponsible behavior or poor judgment," Mike Casey, chairman of the Spokane County Republican Party, said at a news conference.

... West was returning Thursday from a conference in Florida and his attorney, Bill Etter, said he had been unable to contact him for a comment. West has scheduled a Friday afternoon news conference at which he has indicated he will answer questions about his conduct.

It's not a "homosexual sex scandal," dammit. It's using your office improperly.

1. Republicans EXPECT each other to use their offices improperly.
Getting caught and OUTED as gay is his crime in the eyes of the GOP.

Corruption is only the the norm, it's what republicans do.

Republicans take money from business interests and then do favors for these business interests. That is the summary of the republican concept of governing.

Take Tom Delay for example. A really HUGE crook. But the thugs are behind him 100%. But if they found out he was gay they'd toss him on his ear in a heartbeat.

2. How quickly they distance themselves from their own party members
when they get into trouble.

3. He was the State Majority Leader for years
and all knew of his, uh "weaknesses & preferences" for decades. But the press outed him and NOW the GOP are running from him. Typical GOP operation. The GOP knew it in Washington for decades.

4. They Need To Distance Themselves
...before the stuff hits the fan.

Washington State is rife with corrupt "leaders", politicians, mayors, attorneys, judges, law enforcement, priests, et al, they all have close ties to mafia, and each other.
They knew. They covered-up.

5. I love this guy. Hey Mayor West: thanks for keeping your scandal....
in the public eye as long as possible! Embarrasss the GOP! Make sure
everyone hears every detail of your sordid journey as an elected official!
Get the GOP where they live: homophobia as promoted by closet cases!

7. Denial and Stubborn Foolish Pride
Mayor West is too proud, stubborn, and dishonest to resign. He changes his story every time he tells it. I can't believe his attorneys haven't told him to "shut the f* up!".
Knowing what I know about Washington State law enforcement, attorneys, Catholic priests and mafia, republican politicians, and Boy Scouts, I have to say I believe the "convicted felons" before I believe Mayor West.
