The Associated Press

(AP) — President Bush will return $4,000 in campaign contributions by a Toledo area coin dealer who is under state and federal investigation, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee said.

Aaron McLear said the RNC also will return $2,000 donated by Tom Noe, who is under investigation for his handling of $55 million the state Bureau of Workers' Compensation gave him to invest in rare coins. Noe's lawyer has reported that $10 million to $12 million is missing.

The money will be refunded to charity, McLear said Thursday.

But McLear said Bush has no immediate plans to return more than $100,000 raised by Noe for the Bush-Cheney campaign last year...

they'd better return it all like Dean told them to;

"Howard Dean renews call for Bush to return money raised by Noe

COLUMBUS - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean yesterday charged President Bush with using money during last year's campaign that was "tainted" by Toledo-area coin dealer Tom Noe, who is being investigated for allegedly misappropriating millions of dollars in Ohio money...

"Tom Noe's name has been added to the growing list of big-time contributors to President Bush's re-election campaign being investigated for criminal wrongdoing," Mr. Dean said in a statement released yesterday to The Blade.

"Noe was given special status and special access by the Bush-Cheney campaign as a Pioneer donor, but there are now signs that the money he used to acquire this special status was tainted."

Mr. Dean yesterday repeated the Democratic National Committee's call for President Bush to return money raised by Mr. Noe. Ohio Democrats have also called on Ohio lawmakers who have received money from Mr. Noe to return the contributions..."

4. Cleveland paper's editorial-"The GOP version of 'all fixed' "
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 06:11 AM by Algorem
Thursday, June 02, 2005

How can Ohio's Republican state sena tors look at the mutilation their party's credibility has suffered in recent weeks and act as if it were merely a scratch?

The free fall from the state's foolish decision to invest $54 million from the Bureau of Workers' Compensation in a rare-coin fund controlled by Tom Noe, a prominent political operative, is nowhere close to ending. And BWC Director Jim Conrad, whose resignation is effective Friday, is far from likely to be its last casualty.

Yet GOP senators seek ceremoniously to cloak themselves as reformers, while proposing reforms so minuscule that they border on dismissive. Only a fool would apply a Band-Aid to a gaping wound and call it healing...

Pay-to-play is now a criminal issue in Columbus, yet the Republicans fiddle insolently as their own party burns.

7. Shorter Plain Dealer
to Repubs

"You guys are making this way too hard for us to cover up".

Their only outrage is at the fact the Repubs didn't do a better job of keeping this scheme under wraps. Machaskee and Larkin at the PD knew this was going on and looked the other way.

9. That's what I'm angry about.
If the money came from the Worker's Comp fund in any way, it should be returned to that fund. I've only noticed one state R who is saying she'll give the money back to the fund.

11. It's a mystery. Why not return any recovered funds from where they came
Maybe the keyword is "charity?" Like the GOPers are saying, "We're not crooks; see, we're giving to charity!"

Then there's the issue that if $10 million is missing, where's the rest of it?

18. They say they will give it to charity because no one will verify if it was
actually given to a charity. If they were going to return it to the state there will be a public record to check. This way they make a statement saying they will give the money away with no way for that to be verified.

I hadn't thought of that aspect.
So you're thinking they are just saying it's going to charity and they are really keeping it?

10. It Means it Will Go to Focus on the Family
or maybe the 700 Club.

Lovely how this shit works, isn't it?

This needs to be hammered until it brings about the end of the Republican domination of Ohio. Like Patton said of Messina, "Ohio is the Key"!

If we can turn Ohio Blue, the neo-cons and the Repuke's assault on Americans is OVER. It's that simple! They simply cannot win without Ohio, and there are 2 Senate seats that are ripe for the taking.

20. Bush Returning Funds From Coin Dealer (Washington Post)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/03/AR2005060301120.html

CRAWFORD, Texas -- President Bush is returning $4,000 in campaign contributions from an Ohio coin dealer who is the subject of state and federal investigations, the White House said Friday.

Tom Noe, who is from suburban Toledo, is under investigation for his handling of $55 million the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation gave to him to invest in rare coins. Noe's lawyer has reported that $10 million to $12 million is missing.

"I think that there are some serious allegations that have been raised against this individual," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said in Texas while Bush spent time at his ranch.

"They have raised concerns with people in Ohio. They have raised concerns with the White House. And the president felt it was the right thing to return those contributions that came directly from him," McClellan said.

22. The rest of the article
is pretty bad. Apparently, bush ISN'T giving back $100,000 Noe contributed to the bush-cheney '04 campaign, because that money supposedly came from other people; Noe fundraised it. But the article goes on to mention that Noe is suspected of having given money to people to give in their name, but it was actually FROM him.

Mmmm.

32. I bet if we did
a thorough house cleaning on that state alone would bring up some really ugly dust bunnies.

Blackwell alone is just surface dirt. I think the repukes have been working a long time hiding and corrupting Ohio. I think we would find similar findings in Florida.

35. WP: Bush to Return $4,000 Given by Subject of Probe (Noe Ohio Coin)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/03/AR2005060301528.html

President Bush is returning $4,000 in campaign contributions from an Ohio coin dealer who is the subject of state and federal investigations, the White House said Friday.

Tom Noe, who is from suburban Toledo, is under investigation for his handling of $55 million the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation gave to him to invest in rare coins. Noe's attorney has reported that $10 million to $12 million is missing.

"I think that there are some serious allegations that have been raised against this individual," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said here while Bush spent time at his ranch. "And the president felt it was the right thing to return those contributions that came directly from him."

Aaron McLear, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said Thursday that the $2,000 donated by Noe to the RNC will be given to charity. McLear added that Bush has no plans to return more than $100,000 Noe raised for the Bush-Cheney campaign last year. "Those are from other individuals," McClellan said. "In the past, I think, the campaign . . . has returned contributions from individuals that maybe have been convicted of crimes, and so forth."
