Nevada's quarter design revealed
This from the red state from which Gibbons and Reid come from, the ones who helped pass the wild horse slaughter bill a few months ago! Irony grows thick in the sagebrush of Nevada!

CARSON CITY -- Nevadans have chosen a design featuring three wild horses galloping across a valley with snow-capped mountains in the background for their state quarter, state Treasurer Brian Krolicki announced Thursday.

Krolicki said 32 percent of the 59,000 people who cast ballots online and by mail during May favored the wild horses theme. Starting in January, the United States Mint will produce nearly a half billion of the quarters over a 10-week period.

Each state, in the order of its admission to the union, has been given an opportunity to choose a design that reflects its essence. Nevada was the 36th state.

7. So many possibilities, and
that's the best they could come up with? How about a casino, showgirl, and brothel with the motto "What happens here, stays here."

26. A brothel and "what happens here - we spread it around".
I like a pair of dice or the a royal flush image - with a busty vegas showgirl with headress on the reverse.

8. And the symbolism --
the 'essence' of Nevada is reduced to a static image on a COIN because the reality (actual wild horses) are being slaughtered. Lovely, just lovely.

9. They ruled out any motif related to gambling,
or presumably showgirls etc., from the beginning. And lots of us are fighting for preservation of the wild horses.

I dislike the really busy quarters, if you can't show your state simply, then you have issues.

What else are they going to put on the quarter?

A really, really big sage bush?

On edit: Wait, they did that.... the sage is bigger than the horses!

29. This thread got me to thinking about the Oregon state quarter.
Here it is, my friends, nice and clean.

"The Oregon Quarter is the Third of the 50 States Commemorative Quarters released by the U.S. Mint in the year 2005, and the 33rd of the entire series.

According to the U.S. Mint's official website, Its coin design features a portion of Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the United States, viewed from the south-southwest rim. The design incorporates Wizard Island, as well as Watchman and Hillman Peaks on the lake’s rim and conifers. The coin bears the inscription "Crater Lake". Crater Lake is a unique and stunning natural treasure, formed more than 7,700 years ago by the collapse of Mt. Mazama in what is now southern Oregon. At 1,949 feet, it is the deepest lake in the United States and the seventh deepest in the world, and has a record clarity depth of 134 feet. The main cause of Crater Lake’s remarkable clarity is its isolation from incoming streams and rivers."

with the soon to be extinct wild horses and burros galloping about.

But seriously, I think there should be wild horses/burros with the Comstock mine as the backdrop.
