Charlotte Church: Bush is a right weirdo
-------------------------------
Welsh singing star Charlotte Church branded US President George Bush “a right weirdo” and opera legend Pavarotti a “big fat diva”, it was reported today.

(snip)

Church, 19, said gaffe-prone Bush had no idea where Wales was when she met him after performing for outgoing President Bill Clinton in Washington in 2000.

“Clinton was lovely, in tune with everyone else, but George Bush just hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing,” she said, according to the Daily Record.

“He asked me what state Wales was in. I said: ‘It’s its own country next to England, actually Mr Bush.’

“If he doesn’t know the rest of the countries in Europe, he could at least know what’s in his own country. I’m really worried about it. He’s a right weirdo.”

1. George Bush just hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing,” she said
Well, it certainly didn't take her long to get his number, did it?

It's obvious his job is to be out front, placate the fundies, and raise cash from the greedy.

The rest of the government seems to be run by committee.

Well, Mr. PResident, we haven't officially conquered that part of the world, but it's on our to do list.

36. With Bush's roots in British royalty...
... he probably thinks of himself as the next King there... So he probably already feels he's ready to take power there.

Kerry should be able to argue him on that battle as well though...

BTW, Charlotte fans may be shocked to hear that she has temporarilly put her classical singing career on hold - her latest single "crazy chick" has more of a Motown feel (!) It's quite good, actually - I'm pleased that she has not gone down the "commercial dance diva" route, which would have been more predictable.

59. I heard Charlotte Church's new single on the radio the other day
when, funnily enough, I was actually in Wales (driving back to Yorkshire from Cardiff) and I heard her new song on the radio. I had read a while back that she was changing her musical direction and wondered at the time if she would go down the same path as so many other young singers, all heavy production, synthesized sound, droning vocal and relentless bass, and was relieved that she chose not to to do that. On her new single, there are actually (gasp!) musicians playing real instruments, her voice is beautiful and the song is really catchy.

The tabloids over here have given Charlotte Church a fair amount of grief for the last few years, mainly for the reason that she had the nerve to stop being a sweet 12 year old musical prodigy and grow up. Every romantic liaison she's had and every tiff she's had with her mother have been examined in depth by the tabloids, she's been followed on holiday by paparazzi looking for topless shots, photographed being drunk at her 18th birthday party (and let's face it, if every kid who got drunk at their 18th birthday party was in the news, there wouldn't be time for anything else), and just generally hounded by the press. All because she dared to become an adult. She's had a rough ride and has still emerged with her head on straight.

Good for her, and good luck to her. It's hard for an artist to change musical genres because so often the listening public want things to stay exactly the same. It will be a shame if someone with a voice like Charlotte Church doesn't succeed in the pop world when so many lesser talents (I'm talking about you, Britney Spears, and all your musical clones) make millions.

by way of Amsterdam...

Porthmadog and the surrounding lands are absolutely gorgeous.. walking back to my b & b late at night in absolute darkness with nothing but stars overhead and the occasional bleating of sheep...

anyhoo here's a cool link- http://www.portmeirion-village.com/en/features.php?id=24&MID=38

Since i was 11 years old (when it first aired here) The Prisoner has been my favorite television show. Going to "the Village" was a hajj for me. I've often joked that as the Portmeirion was my "Mecca"- Amsterdam was my "Gomorrah" ;)

p.s. it would absolutely ruin the place to think that Dubya even knew that it existed!

I remember thinking at the time how stupid Bush was.

Since I am married to a Welshman, I am sad to say, that most Americans don't have a clue that Wales is a country all by itself west of England. I can't count the times I have had to explain to people where exactly Wales is and that yes it is indeed a country.

The POS thinks Wales is something that swims in the ocean.

What a dumbshit the sheeple voted for.

"I’m really worried about it."

Join the club Ms. Charlotte.

I don't know who she's referring to here. Could be Pavarotti or that POS*.

74. No states in Europe or rest of world?
Two definitions of the word "state" according to OneLook Dictionary:

"noun: the territory occupied by a nation"

"noun: a politically organized body of people under a single government"

Also, the word "country" has the same two definitions. A state and a country are one and the same.

I'll bet people "over there" would be very surprised that they don't live in states.

P. S. I'll bet that G. W. * doesn't know that either.

77. Plausible
but fallacious argument. As Arte Johnson of Laugh In used to say... "Very interesting... but stupid."

When has * EVER asked "what kind of a state is (take your pick of any country)in?" - and ask it of a singer, no less. Doesn't sound like * vocabulary at all. But I can imagine him thinking a singer is a good person to ask such a question. Geez!!

Edit to change wording a bit.

Second edit: He obviously doesn't even care enough about the state of any country to ask, anyhow.

76. Right on, Charlotte!

Yes, she grown up nicely (looks-wise,) and her voice has only gotten better. It's too bad that it takes a young pop singer from Wales to speak out like this, but it does provide a refreshing change from Britney Spears.
