DoD assumes responsibility for releasing recruiting stats
DoD assumes responsibility for releasing recruiting stats
Individual services no longer authorized to announce numbers at beginning of the month

By Laura Bailey
Times staff writer

The Army and Marine Corps, as they struggle with recruiting shortfalls, will no longer announce their monthly recruiting numbers at the beginning of each month.

Instead, the Defense Department will approve the release of recruiting statistics for all four services. "

3. Covering up bad news.
Republicans must be getting tired of being told "get to the recruiter's office you chickenshits!"

More government in secret thanks to the Bush corporate cabal.

Covering it up won't help the line units in need of soldiers. This is going to be intereting.

They don't want to exhibit any weakness that would "aid or comfort" the enemy.

15. Don't forget, it's the "War on terror" of which Iraq was (is)
only a battle. It has been devised as the endless war, generational, they made that clear from the outset. We are in a terrible bind.

17. I agree, it's all about how they look to others.
It's an old game mines bigger than yours. They are worried how this is going to look to their "enemies" and future "enemies".

Sadly the young Republicans are letting them down and causing the US to look weak in the eyes of others. Shame on them! Why do they hate America?

22. Pissed is not even the word...........
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 08:55 PM by converted_democrat
pissed, betrayed, and foolish......Just to name a few. Sometime people get confused "oldstyle" conservatives for the people that are trying to hijack their name. I know alot of true "oldstyle" conservatives and they are just as pissed as we are. Freepers are hijacking the conservative name trying to make people believe there are more of them than there really are. The sad thing is that these "oldstyle" conservatives are very hard workers "salt of the Earth" type people that work 80 hours a week and they don't truly realize what is being done in their name. They don't have time to find out the truth. Also these people talk about politics at home just about as well as they talk about sex.The ones that have figured it out are really mad and confused and not sure what to do. We need to actively seek them out, and give them a voice.

Oh, and thank you for the welcome!!!! I love it here.

32. and if the DoD can't handle the responsibility of recruiting stats...
It will be turned over to the Ministry of Truth. Seriously though, I doubt that recruitment figures would shape Rumsfeld's military strategy very much. He pretty much admitted it when he said something like: You don't go to war with the army you want, you go to war with the army you have.

28. So now all we are going to get is the grand total, no more Army or Marines
We will never again hear a breakdown for the various services. Smart kids are joining the Navy and Air Force and they're hoping to make up the shortfalls in total numbers with those figures.

How blatantly obvious can they get?

34. YES... I am betting they are right on schedule for that
On the bright side, I will be able to help some freepers pack for the war... hey now they can put their money where their mouth is... too bad they chose the draft instead of doing the patriotic thing and actually joining (damn chickenhawks)

Now how many of these outstanding kids will suddenly develop other prioritties?

40. Probably be some secret memo that Boy Scouts are now to be
counted as 'potential' recruits.

Then Rummy can just fold those numbers right in, make everything look so much better.

I mean, if flipping hamburgers is now 'manufacturing', why not?
