Rice talks with foe of President Chávez

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice offered her hand to President Hugo Chávez's representative and had a private meeting with one of the top opponents of his rule in Venezuela.

BY JANE BUSSEY
jbussey@herald.com

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday took another sly jab at Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, meeting in private with the woman who helped arrange a recall vote against him and who met with President Bush two weeks ago.

Chávez's government angrily denounced Bush for his meeting with María Corina Machado, accused in Venezuela of illegally accepting U.S. funds for her political activist group, Súmate. It claimed the White House meeting amounted to U.S. support for the president's opponents.

On Monday, on the edges of the Organization of American States General Assembly in Fort Lauderdale, Rice met with Machado -- separately, not as part of the group of officials from nongovernment groups that she also received.

Rice also held a meeting with Cuban exile groups and the foreign ministers of the Caribbean Community, but skipped other bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from other parts of the Americas.
(snip)

Rice also met with representatives of several Cuban-American groups and, according to a pool reporter present, hinted that the Bush administration was close to naming a transition coordinator for Cuba -- a special post called for in a Bush administration study last summer of possible post-Castro policies.
(snip/...)

3. THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION CLOSE TO,"NAMING A TRANSITION COORDINATOR FOR CUBA
?

how very arrogant of them!

do the cubans in the island have no say on who they want as their next leader after fidel castro's natural death whenever it occurs?

are the bushes preparing to stage a soon to be invasion of cuba?

but whether they are, or not ... those words must have sounded like smooth nectar to the rabid right wingers, ileana ros-lehtinen, and lincoln diaz-balart, sitting on either side of condoleeza rice as bush, the man who looks like he still has not lost all of his baby teeth, mouthed those incredibly arrogant words for the purpose of riding a high horse on to the south florida cuban american contaminated soil!

even when he, does not, horses ride, or,truth, tell

11. Now, now. We know what's best for the people of Cuba.
They're not capable of dealing with their own country themselves.

They've been living in dirt & poverty their entire lives and know nothing about what's best for them.

Hell yeah this is total :sarcasm:

7. Me...Confused!
I am not a PhD holder from Univ of Denver, so maybe I am just too stupid to figure this out...

Is there not some international law stating that you can't go into another country and advocate or support an opponent of the current leader?
