WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senators are ready to fulfill the second part of a historic agreement on President Bush's judicial choices by moving California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown's nomination to a federal appeals court toward confirmation.

On Tuesday, the Senate is to vote on moving Brown's nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit past a long Democratic filibuster. She would become the second of three controversial nominees to progress thanks to a deal cut by centrists senators.

Democrats have been blocking Brown's nomination since November 2003.

''After having been delayed for two years by partisan obstructions, she will finally, finally, receive a fair up-or-down vote, something she deserves,'' Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said Monday.

To avert a partisan showdown, seven Democrats and seven Republicans signed a pact last month pledging not to filibuster judicial nominees except in extraordinary circumstances. At the same time, they agreed to oppose attempts by GOP leaders to change filibuster procedures....

4. And Dems wonder why they lose....
It's because they act like battered women and instead of seeking help or standing up, being asertive and LEAVING THE SITUATION (as in shutting down the Senate) they subject their "family" (us- the nation- their country) to abuse.

Who want to vote for a party with leadership like that?

2. Brown is the worst of the lot
I really hope a miracle happens, and her nomination gets rejected in that Senate vote. Calling all reasonable Rethuglican Senators, the few that are left.

5. So the Dems "saved" something by promising (almost) never to use it.
From what I've read about this Janice Brown, she'd be the extraordinary circumstance the filibuster agreement was made for. In fact, that's what I thought maybe the Dems were angling for, letting Owen through so they could filibuster against Brown. But I guess not. The "compromise" was all about giving the Republicans everything they wanted in the first place.

I'm getting closer to going Green Party every day.

6. "compromise" ... Much like the Japanese "compromised" in 1945.
Except the Democrats didn't even wait until a mushroom cloud rose over the Senate. Yet these Quislings continue to give "unanimous consent" to the Reich. Disgusting!

8. Anyone watching the Senate?
I was watching earlier. Durbin and Schumer did a great job showing she's a radical but then Sessions got up and declared they were making baseless statements and inferred they were prejudice.

Ugh.

10. "she will finally, finally, receive a fair up-or-down vote"
If every nominee should get an automatic up or down vote, what is the point of even having the committee?

And isn't there some other procedure- a 'blue slip' or something- where any Senator can anonymously stop any vote?

When we have nothing left to lose, we'll be free, right?

11. Remind me what we got out of this deal again
Bush gets his two most odious nominees, we get...well...what do we get?

Janice Rogers Brown is a far right nut. If it's not okay to use the filibuster against her, who is it okay for, Torquemada?
