1. "mission accomplished"
Did you see that hack Khalizad on CSPAN yesterday? The glass is half full. Boxer called him on a deliberate lie after reading from the Downing Street memo. He said he didn't know of any reports of fraud and waste in the 20 billion reconstruction fund. It was perfectly logical to him that the amount of reconstruction money being spent on security continually moves upward.

I think that secular states are deliberately targeted but this doesn't rule out targeting Iran. I wouldn't be so dismissive of the oil motive as this author is. The influence of the majors is undeniable in forming US international policies. One objective in Iran is the regaining of proprietary interest in nationalized Iranian fields which are according to American oil industry writers "poorly managed" by the Iranians and would do so well in American hands.

I don't see how American policies could be anymore pro-Israel than they are today. Khalizad blows with the wind. His goal is his own aggrandizement. Funny that with all his credentials he comes off as stupid because he is an obscurantist, always attempting to hide his true agenda. Kissinger for example made no pretenses about dealing with the devil. Khalizad has to contend with the incessant moralizing and phony ideological program of this current regime.

I felt when I saw him on television speaking with the elected representatives on CSPAN that he was inwardly gleefully contempuous of his questioners, as if they were morons questioning a genius, pretending to be stupider than he actually was. This is common trait developed by high level political survivors. As representatives of a pliant and politically ineffectual facade of an institution, such contempt might not be inappropriate in a dictatorship.

19. Who the hell knows?
Upper middle class and rich people's kids need to start dying in the War. Then you can bet the fighting will stop.

I'll tell you one unfortunate thing: peace marches and protests won't cut it because the public has become innoculated and insulated from them.

11. RIP soldiers
The parade of flag-draped coffins will not be seen by the public - that would affect the support for this mind-numbing endless war on the world.

Your lives were spent like a cheap coin in a casino - by the addicted slot player scavenging the floor for change - the mindless childishness thinking that there will be an unending stream of "volunteers" willing to jump into the death slot for the momentary pleasure of a fool.

12. Something big is going on there
They aren't saying what, but this weekend the toll stood at 1670, this morning, 1682. Something is up, twelve kia in two days? Either the Iraqis are getting much more proficient at killing americans or they've got something cooking.
If that's the case it's not working, if the casualties go on at this pace how far behind is that draft that nobody wants to mention?

Iraq's Kurdish Leader Backs Shiite Militia

By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA, Associated Press Writer 2 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's Kurdish president backed his Shiite allies Wednesday by openly supporting a militia that Sunni Arab leaders have accused of killing members of their minority.

Clashes in Baghdad and other attacks around Iraq killed at least eight people as the Sunni-dominated insurgency pressed on with its campaign against the Shiite-led government.

The bloody wave of violence that broke out after the April 28 announcement of Iraq's new Shiite and Kurdish dominated government has killed more than 874 people. During the spree, more than 10 Sunni and Shiite clerics have been killed in apparent tit-for-tat slayings that raised fears the country was on the verge of civil war.

(Not allowed to post fourth paragraph.)

They captured Saddam. And there's all those Number 3 guys. And they found a bunker with air conditioning. And there's a ferris wheel somewhere...

And the Downing Street Memo doesn't mean what it says...
