Raw Story: Video proves AP account of Downing Street memo question wrong
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/AP_account_of_Downing_Street_question_differs_from_White_House_Wash._Po_0608.html

The Associated Press errantly revised a question asked by a Reuters reporter about the Downing Street minutes, RAW STORY has discovered.

The AP transcript says the reporter asked a question which included the phrase, "intelligence and facts remain fixed" around the policy of removing Saddam Hussein. The official White House transcript and audio file confirmed by RAW STORY found that the reporter in fact had said "intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy of removing Saddam through military action."

Remarkably, the Washington Post's full transcript disagreed with an article by its own reporter, Dana Milbank. Milbank's version included the correct quotation.

Milbank said in an email that he used copy provided by the Federal News Service, the leading transcription provider in the Washington circuit.

4. We're being pulled further apart as to what the facts are; ...
as to the nature of what is factual; and as to what a given ideologue is willing to admit could be factual.

6. There's no value to this report
I love Raw Story, but this particular report seems completely meaningless. Can anyone draw something from the AP revision to show it was anything more than a minor editorial mistake?

7. Raw Story said they reported it because
The difference, while semantic, entirely changed the question the reporter asked.

13. that little change totally distorts the meaning of the sentence!

9. It seems like a legitimate point to me
They want the reader to see "remain fixed" as a steady, passive, historical state. They do not want the reader to see that the situation was - as the admin likes to say - FLUID: "intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy of removing Saddam through military action."

Because it sounds a whole lot worser, like crap, you'd have to disassemble it.

12. is there ever
a way to find out just which reporter? Maybe we could track specific reporters to see if the consistently 'manage' the news at that level.
