Returning soldier charged in pipe bomb incident
http://cbs4boston.com/massachusetts/MA--PipeBombArrest-gn/resources_news_html

A U.S. Army soldier just back from Iraq tried to blow up the car of a romantic rival with a pair of pipe bombs, police said.

Jesse Magnuson, 21, of Warwick, is facing a number of felony charges in a dispute with another man over Magnuson's wife, Northfield Police Chief Gary Sibilia said Thursday.

The intended victim, whose names was not released, was not in his car Wednesday afternoon when one pipe bomb exploded.

``His intent was not to hurt him,'' Sibilia said.

1. It wasn't a pipe bomb it was an IED.
:( This is terrible. How can you not intend to hurt someone with a pipe bomb?

8. If the troops don't get killed they come back all messed up.
Romantic disappointments are a bitch, but prison is worse and a harder hill to overcome.

6. Just like...
The Nam. It will go on for years. Many years. Essentially, that herd will be culled, sadly.

10. This coming from the police chief.
==``His intent was not to hurt him,'' Sibilia said.==

It's like those bank robbers who say they didn't intend to harm anyone right after they shoot someone. Never mind the fact he brought in a 'loaded' weapon.

11. It's a tiny, rural town
Give Sibilia a break, this is not a normal occurence here in W. MA. Also, I think he blew it up under the car while it was parked, and empty of occupants.

12. Guess you're right. No timer.
It's just odd to see comments like this from the police. I would expect to see something like, "he could've taken out the entire city block."

16. Oh wow!
We are in for more of this.

Makes me wonder about all those "insurgent" bombs that go off in Eye-rack. ;-)
