NDP files ethics complaint against Martin (Canada)
Jun. 9, 2005. 07:01 PM
FROM CANADIAN PRESS

OTTAWA - The NDP has asked Ethics Commissioner Bernard Shapiro to investigate the conduct of Prime Minister Paul Martin and his chief of staff in the Grewal affair.

In a letter today, NDP whip Yvon Godin said if investigating the prime minister is the only way to get at Tim Murphy, then so be it.

"If you cannot include Mr. Murphy in your investigation, then I am requesting of you and your office to include in your inquiry Mr. Martin," Godin wrote.

Murphy was part of a taped conversation in which Tory Gurmant Grewal was offered "rewards" for joining the Liberals.

It's about time the NDP stood up to the Liberals. I've notice the CPC is no where to be found, though. Probably too busy "editing" more tapes. Heee.

1. The MOST interesting thing is,
now that the Liberals need the NDP to survive any potential confidence vote, the New Democrats have never had so much power in Parliament. In fact, given that the Liberal Party seems so disposed to make any and all deals to maintain their minority government, it's almost as though the NDP are the minority government (although they don't have the initiative in driving the agenda).

This state of affairs should hopefully help the NDP in any upcoming elections, given that they can take credit for the social programs they help to save (or enhance), as well as benefitting from the image they are building for themselves as they try to root out corruption and dishonesty in a non-partisan fashion by going on the offensive against BOTH of the big boys.
