Peru's Tintaya copper mine still closed; talks set
BHP Billiton Tintaya SA's (BHP) copper mine in southern Peru's Espinar district remained closed Wednesday because of protests, but the company doesn't plan on pulling out, a company official said.

The mine has been closed since late May when local residents led violent protests, demanding, among other things, that the company increase payments to the local community to $20 million a year from $1.5 million.

A government mission has been negotiating with protesters, but so far no settlement has reached. <snip>
