A BISHOP yesterday called on two million people to descend on Edinburgh for Bob Geldof's G8 demonstration, accusing critics of the anti-poverty protest of "lacking generosity".
The Rt Rev Martin Shaw, Bishop of Argyll and the Isles, gave his support for Geldof's plea for as many people to travel to the capital as possible on 6 July, saying that if millions of protesters were to fill the streets of the city it would help give a greater understanding of the terrible overcrowded conditions that many Africans live in.
Speaking at a press conference in Glasgow, where religious groups voiced support for the Make Poverty History campaign, Bishop Shaw said there had been a lot of "scaremongering" over the march.
"Let's have two million, that's my first thought," he said. "People are getting into a lot of fear and anxiety about this. At least a majority of churches in the city centre are going to open up
