Dean Says Dems Forging Ahead on Issues

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said Thursday that the recent controversy over his comments isn't going to stop congressional Democrats from focusing on issues like Social Security, gas prices and the war in Iraq.

"You know, I think a lot of this is exactly what the Republicans want, and that's a diversion," Dean said after meeting with Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid about the Democrats' agenda for the next few weeks of Congress. "The truth is that we need to focus on exactly the issues that Harry Reid just talked about, and we're going to."

Dean's has come under fire for recent comments, including his observation that Republicans are "pretty much a white, Christian party." While some Democrats have joined the criticism of Dean, Reid refused to join in.

"No matter how people focus on other issues, we're going to talk about what we feel is so important to people all across this country," Reid said.

7. I called this number and asked for Reid's office
and someone in Reid's office answered right away.

I commended Reid for his statement about focusing on what's important. I also asked if Reid met with other Dems. The person who answered said yes. I suggested that Reid tell them to say the same thing to reporters. If a reporter asks some question that is designed to put Dems on the defenseive, the Dem should say he wants to talk about what's important to the country.

I hope others will do the same thing. Maybe the Dems should make a list of the important issues and refuse to talk about anything other than these items.

Here's my list:

Social Security
Medicare Drug Benefit Reform--Bush's gift to the drug companies has medicare in more trouble than social security
the Economy
Corporate Welfare
Support for American troops--proper equipment in Iraq & proper treatment when they get home

3. I've never respected Dean more than now.
He's a REAL leader and a true patriot. He's got a spine and actually believes that what we believe in is worth sticking up for. He represents the democrats and seems proud to be one. As well he should be. He's put honor and integrity first in his job above comfy job security like so many other of the spineless, yielding dems in the party.

He deserves to be put in the history books as the leader of the opposition party during these dark times. A true hero. They're rare these days, indeed.

6. This needs to be said repeatedly

8. Reid said basically the same thing as this
ALL Dems should take this line. They should refuse to talk about anything other than problems that the ordinary person is interested in.

Dems have got to get across to the average voter that Bush may not be ineterested in them but that the Dems are.

9. We need to be writing our Dem reps whenever they
criticize Dean for this. There is no story here and they're helping the Right by coming out against him. Dean made a statement of fact and that's all there is to it.
