US Army's recruitment numbers down for fourth month (Friday news dump)

The US Army fell short of its recruitment goals for the fourth consecutive month, according to figures released by the Pentagon Friday.

The army met only 75 percent of its goal of signing 6,700 recruits in May, the Pentagon said in a statement, after struggling to reach its target in February, March and April.

In April, army recruiters attained 84 percent of their goal. In March, they managed only 68 percent, and in February, 73 percent.

The New York Times said Friday that the army had decided to lower its quota from a previous 8,050 target.
