MANILA, Philippines - Police clashed Friday with protesters who accused President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of cheating to win last year's election. At least 12 people were injured, officials said, and three protesters were arrested.

About 500 activists from the militant farmers group KMP, the left-wing workers' May One Movement and other groups tried to push their way to the presidential palace and hurled stones at officers blocking their path, said senior police officer Modesto Francisco.

Some protesters carried placards reading: "Gloria, corrupt, resign now!" and "Punish Gloria, the cheat." <snip>

Police estimated 500 people took part in the rally, but journalists at the scene said up to 3,000 were there. <snip>

2. Sounds like a natural-born friend of Bush.
She's really popular, isn't she?
The accusations, first made during the election, surfaced anew this week with the release of audiotapes of an alleged wiretapped conversation between Arroyo and an election official. Officials have said the tapes were altered.

Arroyo is also facing allegations her son and brother-in-law, both House representatives, received kickbacks from illegal gambling operators. Both men have denied the allegations.

Police and the military were on alert in the capital ahead of Independence Day on Sunday, warning that unauthorized rallies will not be allowed.

It sounds as if she has this Neo-Con thing DOWN!
