Teachers plan $50 million fight against Schwarzenegger agenda
Teachers plan $50 million fight against Schwarzenegger agenda

Saturday, June 11, 2005

(06-11) 16:19 PDT Los Angeles (AP) --

The union representing 335,000 teachers approved a dues hike Saturday as it prepared a $50 million war chest to fight education reform measures backed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The 800-member governing council of the California Teachers Association approved a dues assessment of $60 a year for up to three years. The money will replenish funds the union plans to use to fight a November special-election that will include measures to raise tenure requirements for public school teachers and limit increases in state education funding.

The dues increase does not need rank-and-file approval.

Schwarzenegger was expected Monday to declare the special election for November.

"The minute the governor declared war on teachers and firefighters and nurses, we had to come back at him," CTA President Barbara E. Kerr said after the vote.

4. I'm a new AARP member. I remember Max Rafferty's Testing jag
from back in the late 60s early 70s. Test Test Test.

BTW, Ahnold's tax plan is based upon the Colorado TABOR (Tax Payer's Bill of Rights) from 1992. Now, 13 years later, Colorado is electing Democrats and they're wondering about how to fix that TABOR spending cap, which is killing the state economy.

This article lables TABOR a 'disaster'

9. If it wasn,t such blatant discrimination in this country I would be all
for tests to see if voters knew the issue before allowing them to vote. It is such a shame that ignorant or shall I say in nicer terms uninformed people go to the polls and vote for everything but the issue. This man should never have been elected and he knows it, that is why he sneaked in at the eleventh hour recall..

15. Californians who aren't nurses need to mobilize in support of them.
Media wars are expensive, but we can pull it off. Money for TV/radio ads, and agreement on talking points.

16. UP NEXT: Nurses Union's and Firefighters, Police on deck
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 10:53 AM by SF Bay Area Dem
This clown will not release his PR stunt schedules because of the teachers, nurses, firefighters and police officers making Arnie's life a living hell. I say good! This asshole blamed Davis for the Enron scams that resulted in the blackouts four years ago and rode that fake issue in the recall. BTW: We begged Bush for help and all it took was a phone call from Ken lay for Bush/Cheney to turn their backs on us.

Anyway, Arnie thinks he can get-over the way Bush does at the national level and it is not working. Californians will only take so much then act. Arnie is finding this out the hard way.

50 million will hopefully be the tip of iceberg to bring Arnie down. It should also be noted Arnie spends an inordinate amount of time fund-raising money in red state cesspools like Texas (and many others)to fund this scam "special election". Why on earth would outside right wingers be so interested in what happens in California? Perhaps they want to keep our markets wide open to scam like they did to our electrical markets?
