Four U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Four U.S. soldiers were killed in separate roadside bombings west of Baghdad, the military said Sunday. Two soldiers were killed Saturday when a bomb exploded near their vehicle outside Amiriyah, some 25 miles west of Baghdad.

Two other soldiers also died Saturday when their vehicle struck a bomb near Taqaddum, 45 miles west of Baghdad.

At least 1,701 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Meanwhile, some insurgent groups have agreed on the need to join Iraq's political process, a government spokesman said Sunday, calling on them to lay down their guns.

20. This is quickly approaching....
...the level of carnage seen during Vietnam. "Thank God" for the body armor soldiers and Marines are required to wear, otherwise the body count would be much higher. /sarcasm off

4. Very sad
That must put the death toll at about 35 so far this month and it is only the 12th freaking day. It just never ends. So many lives lost, so many sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends gone. So many uncounted Iraqi dead.

And this is what the "Support the Troops"-yelling, flag-waving, chickenhawk repubs have to say:

"The story of what we've done in the postwar period is remarkable. ... It is a better and more important story than losing a couple of soldiers every day."
- George Nethercutt (R-WA)

"There are some who, uh, feel like that, you know, the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is: bring 'em on. We got the force necessary to deal with the security situation."
- George W. Bush, July 2, 2003

“I'm always amazed when I hear people saying..."That George Bush. He's a great leader." ...And I wonder, where can one find a drug that would make one so delusional.”
-Lewis Black

24. Great idea!
Anyone with a Bush/Cheney sticker should get one. And put them in the mailboxes of those who sported Bush/Cheney signs on their lawns.

10. bush didn't know anything about the defeat of US in Vietnam
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 12:03 PM by ckramer
He didn't know forces can't necessarily deal with the security situation if the truth is not on invader's side.

21. Sure they can, sadly
I know of these incidents because I read about them on DU. CNN didn't tell me. FauxNews didn't tell me (well, I assume not anyway). Networks, local news, and so on offer no word of events in Iraq. I was reading the newspaper today and I did see a small article about that elite Iraqi unit getting attacked, though it was on the last page of the 'A' section next to a Nordstrom's ad.

If I didn't actively seek out news of Iraq I wouldn't have the foggiest idea what was going on over there. Which is of course exactly the way they want it.

9. Did anyone see Book TV
this morning at about 8 a.m. CT of the military chaplain who has written a book about Abu Ghraib?

This guy was speaking at a Southern Baptist church in South Carolina about how historically successful the Iraq war is and how important it is that we focus on the real purpose of it, which is to spread "liberty" worldwide.

And he kept saying how the media is failing to remind us each day, as it should, how mean and bad Saddam was.

The whole talk had an air of desperation about it. A less-than-capacity room of church ladies was in attendance. Don't bother to catch the repeat unless you like watching unintended comedy.

11. Thanks
I do like to watch that kind of comedy. I've been watching Fox News more frequently in recent months only because it's hilarious watching them put lipstick on the Iraqi pig.

14. My heart aches for the families
So many can't believe that this is a bullshit war, I see them on TV sometimes, saying they are proud of their sons/daughters sacrifice. The angry ones don't seem to get near as much press. It just hurts. I'm so glad my daughter made it back safe and sound from Afghanistan.

16. The sides of the balance.....
are slowly shifting to the center. It's hard to belive that we've lost so many; it just takes your breath away. Already around 80.

And STILL Cheney has the nerve to say "we're winning in Iraq".

I'm still not sure of the total US deaths in Iraq & Afgh.. There was a thread a while back in "General Discussion: Politics" which claimed that actual US deaths are much higher.

At this rate, the US will run out of troops and have to declare defeat. Just like the armies in the old days, when the last soldier was dead and they were waving a white flag in the trenches.

I had always assumed that we would run out of money first, from this madcap adventure. But it looks like the troops are going to run out first.

Either way, Bush and Cheney are eager to keep going. This country is bleeding, both financially and literally. They don't see it.
