Protesters stop Lalu's train near Barauni (Railway Minister / India)
Sunday, June 12, 2005 (Patna):

Upset with power and water problems, a group of women today stopped Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's special train at Barauni in Bihar.

Lalu Yadav was on his way to inaugurate the Saharasa Sapauli railway line. He had left from Patna this morning.

A large number of people had assembled near Garhara railway yard to meet Prasad when he was travelling to Saharsa.

According to reports, the protesters handed over a memorandum requesting Prasad to ask state authorities to take immediate steps to improve power and water supply.

1. Protestors stop Lalu’s train over lack of water, power in Bihar
<snip> Across Bihar, angry residents took to the streets as water and power shortages added to the misery caused by the heat wave, with temperatures shooting up to 45 degrees Celsius.

According to officials, there will be no let up in the heat wave over the next two days. Patna recorded a maximum of 44.2 degree Celsius on Saturday. <snip>

Many towns are without electricity for long hours, and in many places people are reportedly drinking contaminated water to survive in the hostile summer.

In Gaya town, water pumps and even boring machines have been non-functional this year.
