Senior US diplomat survives Iraq car bombing - police
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 08:10 AM by leftchick

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A senior U.S. diplomat survived on Monday when a suicide car bomber struck a U.S. military convoy in Baghdad, several police sources said.

The U.S. official's identity was unclear. It was not clear if he was specifically the target and a U.S. embassy spokesman said he was unaware of the incident, adding that he was unaware of any diplomatic convoy being struck.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Islamic Party, a major Sunni Muslim grouping, said a senior U.S. official had just left its compound in western Baghdad when the explosion went off.

An Interior Ministry spokesman and police had said earlier that a U.S. military convoy had been attacked by a suicide car bomber in the west of Baghdad at around 2 p.m. (1000 GMT) and that two civilians nearby had been killed and five wounded.

2. Thank you Barrett....
I would LOVE to know who this was that was targeted and what injuries he sustained. This is certainly unravelling quickly for the neo-freaks.

US Consul in Baghdad targeted in Iraqi Resistance martyrdom car bombing Monday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blasted an explosives-packed car into a US military convoy in western Baghdad on Monday. QudsPress reported that the American Consul in Baghdad was in the convoy when the attack took place in Baghdad’s al-Yarmuk district.

Iraqi puppet military sources told QudsPress that the convoy in which US Consul Robert Ford was riding was attacked as it pulled away from the headquarters of the Islamic Party in al-Yarmuk.

10. You can say that again. No mention of Iraq on last night's news.
Jacko -Jacko - Jacko !! Somebody tell me why I should give a shit.

I think the new standard for the whore media is - if there are ten soldiers killed, it will get a screen crawl. If there are more than ten, a 5-second blurb. Then - back to the important news !!

6. Aljazeera.Net: Iraq car bombing targets US diplomat
Iraq car bombing targets US diplomat
Monday 13 June 2005, 15:28 Makka Time, 12:28 GMT

A US embassy spokesman said a diplomat, whom he declined to identify, was in the area but was unaffected. He said Monday's attack appeared to be unrelated to the official's movements, but declined to give further details.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Islamic Party, a major Sunni Muslim grouping, said a senior US official had just left its compound in western Baghdad when his convoy was hit by an explosion which shattered windows in the party's headquarters.

Reuters journalists said US soldiers cordoned off the area after the blast, arriving in unusually large numbers for what was otherwise a fairly routine incident in Baghdad.

7. let's look at these statements...
The offical was not targeted but his convoy was hit and he was "unaffected".

The truth will come out eventually.

8. I quite like this one ...

.

So a large explosion hitting a convoy just after leaving the US compound
is now classified as "a fairly routine incident in Baghdad" ...!

Yeah, things are really under control over there ...
