Sect leader charged with child sex abuse
By Tom Leonard in New York
(Filed: 13/06/2005)

The leader of a polygamous sect has been charged with child sex abuse in connection with an arranged marriage between a teenage girl and a 28-year-old man who was already married.

Warren Jeffs, a self-proclaimed prophet and despotic president of the Fundamental Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, faces up to two years in jail if convicted.

Although Jeffs, 49, was charged with sexual conduct with a minor, he did not have sex with the 16-year-old girl but arranged her marriage to the man, said prosecutors.

Polygamy is illegal in America but police believe that it is practised by tens of thousands of Mormon fundamentalists across the West.

2. No, they're Mormon fundies
and girls are raised within the families to be shipped off as wives at the age of 13 or so to old guys who already have a stable of wives, most of whom are on welfare of one type or another.

The whole thing is shockingly inbred, but it's not particularly a doomsday cult.

The amazing thing is that they wated until this girl was 16. She was an old maid in fundy LDS circles.

Who knows - we certainly do have a lot of crazy fundies in the US of A.

6. No joke
These people are really a bunch of sick, sick fucks. The younger the girls, the better as far as they are concerned. It is, according to them, against God's will to have sex with a girl/woman unless she is ovulating. So in order to get their jollies more than a couple days a month, they have a whole flock of wives so they can do it more often.

They hate the government, but they need the money to support these kids and non-working women (heck, most of the men don't work!). So they collect welfare. This kind of government help is called "bleeding the beast" so it's okay to take taxpayer money in this instance. Of course, they use taxpayer roads, electricity, post, etc too.

Why no one has gone after these freaks is beyond me. I'm all for freedom of religion, but when one's religion infringes on the rights of others, particularly children who cannot defend themselves, it is no longer garners religious protection.

8. When a group of women live together
their cycles end up being on the same schedule.

"It is, according to them, against God's will to have sex with a girl/woman unless she is ovulating. So in order to get their jollies more than a couple days a month, they have a whole flock of wives so they can do it more often."

So, if that is their line of thinking, it won't work for very long.
