Iran Links Spate of Bombing to Protests
By ALI AKBAR DAREINI, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 35 minutes ago

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's intelligence minister blamed Iranian Arab extremists Monday for violent protests and a spate of deadly bombings and claimed the ringleaders were connected to foreign intelligence services.

Four bombs in the southwestern city of Ahvaz killed eight people Sunday, and two more people were killed in explosions later in Tehran.

Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi said the bombers were Iranians based outside the country.

"We have proof of a link between these people outside Iran and some intelligence services in the world," Yunesi was quoted as saying by the official Islamic Republic News Agency. He did not identify the leaders of the protests or the intelligence services and stopped short of directly linking foreign hands to the bombings.

4. US has a long history of funding these "terrorists" *LOL*.
Funny, though, how those who bomb in Iran are characterized as "protestors" rather than "terrorists" depending upon which media carries the story.

Did another news source refer to the bombers as "protestors?"

11. Iran hit by wave of bombings, blames US-backed "terrorists"
http://www.iranmania.com/News/ArticleView/Default.asp?NewsCode=32476&NewsK%20%20%20%20ind=Current%20Affairs

Iran was struck by a wave of deadly bombings in this restive southwestern city and the capital Sunday, with the Islamic regime accusing US-backed "terrorists" of seeking to destabilise the country just days ahead of presidential elections, according to AFP.
----
"These terrorists have been trained under the umbrella of the Americans in Iraq," he charged, adding that Iran suspected British troops across the border might also have links to the separatist group -- the London-based Ahvaz Arab People's Democratic-Popular Front.
----
"It was inhuman, a horrible thing. There was a small child walking around looking for his dead mother," said Abdol Hossein Kord-Zanghaneh, a male nurse at an Ahvaz hospital where many of the casualties were taken.

"This is an American plot," he said, adding that many of the wounded had suffered concussion and blown ear drums.

16. You know, I read a different account of this today in my hometown
newspaper of this bombing in Iran and I wondered if the US was behind it. Insurgents bombing their countrymen right before an election? Hmm. Sounds like a Bush-Rumsfeld Special to me.

Shit.

36. Hersh: "I was repeatedly told that the next strategic target was Iran. "
In my interviews, I was repeatedly told that the next strategic target was Iran. “Everyone is saying, ‘You can’t be serious about targeting Iran. Look at Iraq,’” the former intelligence official told me. “But they say, ‘We’ve got some lessons learned—not militarily, but how we did it politically. We’re not going to rely on agency pissants.’ No loose ends, and that’s why the C.I.A. is out of there.”

...“Do you remember the right-wing execution squads in El Salvador?” the former high-level intelligence official asked me, referring to the military-led gangs that committed atrocities in the early nineteen-eighties. “We founded them and we financed them,” he said. “The objective now is to recruit locals in any area we want. And we aren’t going to tell Congress about it.” A former military officer, who has knowledge of the Pentagon’s commando capabilities, said, “We’re going to be riding with the bad boys.”

I understand what you are saying. However, I inferred that those of us who are "pro-Israeli" would some how take joy in this news and I find that offensive. Freepers lurk throughout the entire site, why did s/he feel it necessary to point out one forum, especially the I/P? I saw it as a swipe at saying those who support Israel would find this event a good thing. I won't speak for everyone, but I was offended and am certainly not "dancing with glee" over this news.

You must admit there are some real rabidly pro-Israel flakes in I/P, though. I doubt it was aimed at someone like you, even if I personally think you're a tad sensitive on the issue.

27. Unfortunately, it's the US SOP for destabilizing foreign governments....
...look at the current unrest being generated in any country in which the NeoCons have an interest.

Look also at US history in regards to how we have dealt with Central and South America for the last 100 years. And it's not just the CIA...it is also the DIA, Naval Intell, and any other group that we have yet to hear about.

Same old, same old.

~from the article~

"The calls for a boycott of the vote had failed, so the terrorist groups based in Iraq are trying to use attacks to disrupt the election and prevent a strong voter participation," he said.

Iran is due to go to the polls to elect a new president on Friday.

~more~
