Swaggart Gay Remarks Violated Code, Council Finds

OTTAWA (CP) — Comments made by televangelist Jimmy Swaggart about homosexuals violated the code of ethics of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, an industry watchdog said Tuesday.

The comments were made on a Sept. 12 program that was broadcast by Omni 1 in Toronto, and a complaint was later filed with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.

Swaggart's ministry based in Baton Rouge, La., also received complaints from gay groups over his remarks, in which he said he would kill any gay man who looked at him romantically.

"I'm going to be blunt and plain: If one ever looks at me like that, I'm going to kill him and tell God he died," Swaggart said in the broadcast.

19. I've driven by his "campus" many times

and most of the buildings are empty, with the exception of those he leases to businesses. An ex-friend of mine attended his church and "camp meetings" for many years. She was otherwise very intelligent, and although a Repub for many years she voted for Kerry. (We became ex-friends when she started going on about how its "all about the blood" of Jesus and evolution was of the devil; I just couldn't take it anymore.)
She told me that Swaggart didn't trust Bush (she knows him personally) and spoke badly about Bush a number of times in his sermons. She related many other stories about him, the gist of which is that he is a very troubled and odd man (my conclusion, not hers).

I thought God was infallable, and knew all that happened. Or has that changed? Is God some kind of fallable being, now? Or is God kind of like an Al Capone, who didn't "tell" Swaggart to kill gays, but who suggested he send him "a big red Valentine" a la the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre? And if this is so, who is God worried that He might be caught by? Does God have a God?
