Bush Takes Off The Gloves (Slams Do-Nothing Dems)
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 02:35 AM by bling bling
President Bush tonight ripped the Democratic Party as a pack of do-nothing obstructionists bent on derailing his agenda of reform, telling Democratic leaders in Congress that on issue after issue, "they stand for nothing except obstruction, and this is not leadership."

Mr. Bush said political parties can take one of two approaches: "One approach is to lead, to focus on the people's business, to take on the tough problems, and that is exactly what our party is doing."

"The other approach is to simply do nothing, to delay solutions, obstruct progress, refuse to take responsibility. Members of the other party have worked with us to achieve important reforms on some issues, yet, too often, their leadership prefers to block the ideas of others."

5. I didn't see a list of allowed sources in the rules section.
Believe me, I'm well aware of Drudge's MO.

My main point of posting this was to draw attention to the hypocracy of how the President of our country is attacking the Dems. Yet when our Democratic Chairman insults the Repubs all hell breaks loose.

Not that DUers didn't already know this double standard. Just saying.

55. Absolutely true.
If you back through history, it is a sure way for them to bring themselves down. The Roman Empire, Napoleon are prime examples. Give them all the rope they need and they will hang themselves for sure. Remember, there is always someone waiting in the wings to take you down when you get to full of yourself.

But I will note that seemingly EVERY FRIDAY our bud, C-SPAN's Brian Lamb quotes DRUDGE like he's the gospel. Drudge is Number 1 Rovian stock most prized. YES, it is IMO appropriate to single him out. If you wish to continue to visit his link and give him MORE INCOME to trash Democrats, well, it's on your conscious.

I was only making a request with an explanation. It's up to you to decide.

Does he mean like Sensenbrenner shutting down a hearing before it has ended? Or maybe he means refusing to allow a hearing in a congressional office building? How about refusing to legislation with the opposition present? Or maybe the nuclear option? Is that what he means by obstruction?

44. remember...
the people are behind the dems here.

one of the reasons bush's approval rating is in the toilet is that the goopers have been pushing issues through congress that a majority of americans disagree with, from schiavo to the filibuster.

the dems are doing the public's work here, so if bush has a problem with it, he needs to bring it up with the american people.

22. Another Link to this Story...
In all honesty, Drudge shouldn't be linked because it is just a news portal--all Drudge does is re-write press release copy if he actually posts something under his own byline...

(When I see something--usually off the RSS--and I don't like the source, I will simply take some of the unique 'words' from the headline or first paragraph and do a news google and find out if the story has a more credible link)

Bush blasts Democrats for 'agenda of road block'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Tuesday unleashed his harshest criticism yet on Democrats for thwarting his second-term agenda, demanding they put forward ideas of their own or "step aside" and signaling a more aggressive administration strategy of attack.

With approval ratings the lowest of his presidency and critics suggesting he is already losing political clout, Bush blamed "do-nothing" Democrats for holding up an overhaul of Social Security and delaying votes on his nominees to the federal bench and the United Nations.

<snip>

The assault highlighted administration frustrations over Democratic tactics, and offered a preview of Republican strategy in the run-up to the 2006 mid-term elections.

"On issue after issue, they (the Democrats) stand for nothing except obstruction," Bush said at the annual President's Dinner, a $23 million fund-raiser attended by Republican leaders, party donors, and a blond porn star and former California gubernatorial candidate named Mary Carey.

40. I don't get it
This man says: "The other approach is to simply do nothing" but wasn't he the same person that, when given a PDB a month before 9/11 saying that the number one Terrorist was looking to attack America in the very near future he ignored it and went about his vacation without a care in the world?

"to delay solutions"...Global warming is a real problem and his administration has been asked to join the fight to stop it, so to speak and what does he do? Tells the rest of the world the jury is still out.

"obstruct progress"...Stem cell research anyone?

"refuse to take responsibility"...When asked during a press conference if he can think of one thing he has done wrong he says in a nutshell "nope"..guess he forgot about a war that turned up no weapons of mass destruction, not capturing a terrorist that killed three thousand plus people on American soil or the fact that he is a divider..NOT a "uniter".

Personally this is my favorite line: "to achieve important reforms on some issues, yet, too often, their leadership prefers to block the ideas of others."...and there it is folks...Social Security..all he is bitching about is the fact that he has traveled the country to try and sell people on this lame excuse to give money to Wall Street and kill-off a program that has worked for many many decades to keep the elderly out of poverty and is mad that he is not getting has way.

His party is in control of the House, Senate and he is the President and its the "other guy" that is holding him back? Talk about a lack of leadership. Sad really.

50. Dems must be doing a good job.
Let's see Universal type healthcare, a living wage, minimum wage increase and environmental protections get passed. Bush is obstructing my agenda.

57. The democrats are the opposition
Are they not? the opposition is not really in a position of power - obstruction is what they do. Republicans did the same when they were the minority.

60. I find the current abuse of power by the majority to be alarming.
Their message is if you don't agree with us you are bad, you are wrong, you don't love America. What they fail to see (or, more likely, choose to ignore) is that open debate is a necessary and vital part of our government, otherwise we become a one-party dictatorship.

Having said that, I think Bush’s comments reflect a sense of desperation as we see his poll numbers tanking while some members of his own party are breaking away on several issues.

65. "Doing the Peoples Business" PUuuuuulease!!
It ain't the Peoples Business, locking out "the loyal opposition," from our halls of government.

It ain't the Peoples Business sending their sons, daughters, wives, husbands, and grandparents into an illegal war unequipped and untrained.

It ain't the Peoples Business denying them adequate health care yet at the same time letting the Pharmaceutical companies write the very same regulations/laws denying this requirement.

It ain't the Peoples Business when you have the Petroleum Industry write the laws/regulations to insure the highest profit for their companies at the detriment of "The People."

It ain't the Peoples Business when you take control of the 4th Estate and allow only scripted lies and cover-ups from the WH.

It ain't the Peoples Business when you hinder citizens from performing the most cherished freedom they have been given.....the right to enter a voting booth and casting their vote.

Mr. President, the Peoples Business is not what you even think about. What you and your fellow thugs are doing is the Corporate Business. The Peoples Business
is what your and your CEO's are doing your utmost to destroy.

This is good, Howard Dean has drawn them out into the open and they are ramping up the level of bullshitting and lying to beyond absurd, recall Cheney's recent spewings about who loves or doesn't Howard Dean. No class, no decency, not one shred.
