Wine linked to Ohio coin scandal stolen; Colorado burglars also take guns,
By STEVE EDER
BLADE STAFF WRITER

COLUMBUS — The suburban Denver home of a former employee of Tom Noe was burglarized over the weekend, with thieves making off with artwork, guns, jewelry, cars, and $300,000 in wine — possibly purchased with money from the state of Ohio.

Investigators said the evidence tape was torn from the door of the wine cellar, which had been pried open, and three humidors were missing. Several keys were also reported stolen from the home, including a key to Mr. Storeim’s business.

State Sen. Marc Dann, a Democrat from suburban Youngstown, called the reported burglary “an amazing coincidence.”

“Clearly, this is more than a coincidence,” he said. “I hate to be cynical, but I think I’m a little bit suspicious. This whole thing gets weirder and weirder.”

1. Bullshit on the burglary!
Can they GET any more obvious than this?

How much do you want to be there never WAS any wine to be stolen -- they stole that money long ago...

Is the mob entirely in control of Ohio's state government, or what?

11. Whatever the case is
It would have been highly irresponsible and professionally negligent for them to keep the State of Ohio's investment IN THEIR HOME without insuring it for the full value, right? If it wasn't, that should be a huge red flag.

So if they didn't have this insured, Ohio ought to be suing this guy for his left arm and first born son, right? If they don't, that should be a huge red flag, too, given the fact that the Republican mob controls Ohio's state government.

I still think this was a setup burglary. I think it was done to cover up the fact that there was no investment. I think they just stole the money.

If it was insured, though, you can bet the insurance company will be investigating this long after the police close the case...

13. Seems to me you would
have to be one of two things,
1. desperate or
2. stupid,
to rip off crime scene evidence. Can't wait to hear some of the details of this little burglary.

15. If this shit happened in a Third World country, we would not be surprised
The fact that all this crap is happening in Bush's America doesn't surprise me a bit.

Once you tell the population that it's OK to steal an election and have the president nominated by a supreme court (appointed by their own party), then all bets are off.

What's going on in Ohio is pure LOOTING, LARCENY and THEFT. They are looting the treasury right in front of our eyes and most people don't' give a crap. It's the Republican way. That's how things work now.

24. Morrow County
67% for Bush in 2000
60% for Bush in 2004

They forgot or neglected to rig it since it is so small. Bush drops 7% in one election cycle in this small, conservative Republican county, and does not drop more than that in the rest of the heavily Democratic areas?

Anybody selling any land in Florida?

34. Whining Ohio.
Nope.
Noe was managing the fund that invested in "rare coins" (snicker).
I think the inference of the story was that the wine was purchased with some of the unaccounted for $12 mill in the mismanagement of the coin fund.
This iffy investment opportunity was pimped by Noe to the Ohio (r) Governor, to whom Noe had made campaign contributions in excess of $20,000. The governor made Noe the Manager of this fund. Very little if no oversight was given to this fund.
Actually current tally of losses in the 'rare coin" investment scandal is something over $33 mil with $12 mil unaccounted for....

And to think, at a 32 mill loss, this is the SMALL Ohio investment scandal.

Chris

It won't be long before we have Whinegate. That's when the Repubs start whining that they are being picked on, and that life is failing to provide them with "special" exemptions and priviliges -- as they are accustomed. Noblese oblige indeed.

33. Speaking of amazing coincidences
I've been reading up on Newt Gingrich since he's been popping up in more places that Waldo, and I was wondering why unelected, non-public people seem to have such say in our governance, when I came across this flash from the past - back in the era of the Contract On America - when the party of MORALITY was seizing the reins of power.

From “Good Newt, Bad Newt” by Peter J. Boyer, Vanity Fair, July 1989:

This spring, in an extraordinary jolt to the usually somnolent politics of House Republicans, Gingrich leapt from his niche as a back-bench bomb thrower to the post of minority whip, a key position in a party leadership. His ascension changes the chemistry of politics on Capitol Hill and signals a dramatic new Republican strategy. After thirty-four years as the minority party in Congress, years of deep frustration, the Republicans seem ready to launch an all-out war on Democratic dominance, attacking the Democratic Party as a whole with the same spectacularly successful (if ungentle) tactics that George Bush's campaign managers used against Michael Dukakis in 1988.

The Bush campaign sank Dukakis by playing to the national gut --driving the public perception of the Democratic candidate to the far left with such devices as the Willie Horton ads, which portrayed Dukakis as being soft on crime by focusing on Massachusetts's prison-furlough program. (Horton, a scary-looking black man, raped a white woman while on a weekend leave from a Massachusetts prison.) The architect of that campaign, political consultant Lee Atwater, is now chairman of the Republican National Committee, and his former boss, political consultant Ed Rollins, is head of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Atwater was among the first to applaud Newt Gingrich's selection as whip: "He talks the kinda talk I like." It is clear that the Atwater-Rollins wing of the party, at least, intends Gingrich to be the Republicans' front man in the drive to do for all of the G.O.P. what Atwater did for George Bush--to "Willie Horton" the Democratic House of Representatives by hammering away at the theme of "institutional corruption." . . .

So he whaled away at Wright, calling him "the most corrupt Speaker of the twentieth century,"

. . .

So Gingrich's role is to drive home the message that the House is a Democratically controlled institution. Or, rather, that it is a "corrupt, left-wing, Democratically controlled institution."

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newt/boyernewt1.html
end

I figure by now the Democrats must be clean as scouts. Time to turn the tables on the corrupt Republicans.
