Senator: Gitmo An 'Embarrassment'

(AP) Top U.S. military officials on Wednesday defended practices at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp and claimed that extraordinary steps were being taken to protect certain rights of prisoners and to process their cases.

But a leading Senate Democrat called the terror-crime camp "an international embarrassment to our nation."

Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said if there is evidence of terrorism or other criminal activity among the detainees, "then lets prosecute them. Let's bring the evidence forward."
