White House: autopsy doesn't change Bush's views on Schiavo case

WHITE HOUSE The White House says today's autopsy report doesn't change President Bush's view on the Terri Schiavo (SHY'-voh) case.

Spokesman Scott McClellan says the president opposed the removal of her feeding tube because he thinks Americans should "stand on the side of defending ... life."

A county medical examiner's report backed the contention of Schiavo's husband that she was in a vegetative state, and her brain damage was irreversible.

Bush interrupted a stay at his Texas ranch to fly back to Washington and sign a bill authorizing federal judges to intervene in the case. Despite the legislation, they declined to do so, and she died March 31st.

McClellan called Schiavo's a "sad case" -- but said Bush believes he was right to side with her parents, who wanted to keep her alive.

When pandering to the lowest, most despicable elements of your base is so much more satisfying.

George W. Bush is a lying scumbag.

15. The crime is fit to the punishment
The punishment has already been determined. As Rand Beers said after quitting the NSA, these guys have already decided what they want to do; it's just a question of finding excuses to do it. DiIulio said the same thing, coining "Mayberry Machiavellis" on the way out the door.

This is fundamentalism: the arrogant certainty that one understands all there is to understand; to deny shocking evidence to the contrary isn't merely soldierly duty, it's the mark of greatness. The more one dismisses the obvious, the better one is as a person. All you can see in this earthly realm is unimportant; the only things that matter are those you can't perceive. Joy is bad. Afterlife is more important than existence.

It's oh so masculine to never waver. Those who cringe in uncertainty LOVE this surety.

We're in big trouble.

72. I think the penalty for treason is bit more than a few years...
There is still a federal death penalty, isn't there? I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be enforced when * is found guilty of treason. It's not like he can say that he would be against it - the "Culture of Life" crap that he is now fond of spouting can't change his history as Texas governor...

4. Great news!
I want McClellan reminding America how Bush and his evil minions in Congress interferred in the Schiavo tragedy and how he doesn't at all regret it. I think we're someday going to look back on that event as the turning point in Bush's maladministration, the moment when he started to slide downhill. His poll numbers have been steadily dropping ever since he and the GOP inserted themselves into the case. Go George! Talk about Schiavo a LOT more!

45. You speak for me, too
It also somehow gets lost on the media that as governor of Texas, he signed into law a bill allowing hospitals to pull the plug on patients who had no hope of recovery, even over the objections of their families.

Sounds like he was siding with corporate interests instead of the sanctity of life. In addition, for someone who claims to revere life, he sure as hell sent a lot of men...and at least one woman...to be executed. He didn't even bother to learn the circumstances of the cases, or any evidence showing possible doubt.

Then, there's the question of Iraq. He was so obsessed with being known as a "War President", that he invented a reason to start one, and Iraqi and American citizens, in addition to citizens of many other countries, have been dying and being maimed ever since.

His hypocrisy knows absolutely no bounds. The man is nothing but poison.

12. And he STILL doesn't get it....
This whole "drama" was about the law and what rights we citizen's have, not about where we each stand. If the President wants to "stand on the side of defending ... life." thats fine but when its not your life or a loved one's life BUTT OUT!!!

It's tuff for me to read this and not laugh, not that I would ever laugh at what both sides went thru..it was sad to see parents loose there child and sad for a husband fighting to keep a promise, just sad...but I laugh at how a man like the President gets in the middle of something that had nothing to do with him but will not lift a finger for weeks to help people in a country that was ravaged but a tsunami till he is called out for his lack of careing...and he sides with "life"?..No he sides with pandering not life...its all about the show, Mrs Schiavo was nothing more then a stage for him and his cronies to dance and sing on..and even in death he is still tap-dancing along talking about "defending ... life"

Maybe he should try and tell all those people that have to bury there loved ones here and in Iraq about "defending ... life".

33. Just remember: To the far right, your body is their asset.
Your body is not yours. It is an asset to the far right.

The corporate masters use your body from 9-5 and the religious masters own your body the rest of the time.

It's the one thing they both agree on: you do not own your own body, and the idea that you could choose to let it die is not to be permitted.

and Bush's reaction shows that he is a complete idiot that doesn't want the facts to get in the way of his misguided and twisted concept of protecting life.

I was wrong about Michael Schiavo! The autopsy report fully validate Michael's position on letting Terri die in peace. The parents and siblings were wrong, and they were also wrong in thinking that Michael had abused Terri. Let this issue be laid to rest!

51. I now send to bush and admin, the longest curse in the english language:
I denounce, proclaim and declare all the committers of the said senseless murders, slaughters, burning, torturing, plundering, raping and pillaging, openly by daylight and under silence of night, even on such peaceful ground as church lands; together with their families, henchmen, suppliers, and willing conspirators who give them refuge, their receivers of goods stolen by them, and any benefit or part thereof, and their counsellors and defenders of their evil deeds, generally CURSED, denounced, execrated, in sum total, with the GREAT CURSING.

I curse their head and all the hairs of their head; I curse their face, their brain (innermost thoughts), their mouth, their nose, their tongue, their teeth, their forehead, their shoulders, their breast, their heart, their stomach, their back, their womb, their arms, their leggs, their hands, their feet, and every part of their body, from the top of their head to the soles of their feet, before and behind, within and without.

I curse them going and I curse them riding; I curse them standing and I curse them sitting; I curse them eating and I curse them drinking; I curse them rising, and I curse them lying; I curse them at home, I curse them away from home; I curse them within the house, I curse them outside of the house; I curse their wives, their children, and their servants who participate in their deeds. I (bring ill wishes upon) their crops, their cattle, their wool, their sheep, their horses, their swine, their geese, their hens, and all their livestock. I (bring ill wishes upon) their halls, their chambers, their kitchens, their stanchions, their barns, their cowsheds, their barnyards, their cabbage patches, their plows, their harrows, and the goods and houses that are necessary for their sustenance and welfare.

May all the malevolent wishes and curses ever known, since the beginning of the world, to this hour, light on them. May the malediction of God, that fell upon Lucifer and all his fellows, that cast them from the high Heaven to the deep hell, light upon them.

May the fire and the sword that stopped Adam from the gates of Paradise, stop them from the glory of Heaven, until they forebear, and make amends.

May the evil that fell upon cursed Cain, when he slew his brother Abel, needlessly, fall on them for the needless slaughter that they commit daily.

May the malediction that fell upon all the world, man and beast, and all that ever took life, when all were drowned by the flood of Noah, except Noah and his ark, fall upon them and drown them, man and beast, and make this realm free of them, for their wicked sins.

May the thunder and lightning which rained down upon Sodom and Gomorra and all the lands surrounding them, and burned them for their vile sins, rain down upon them and burn them for their open sins. May the evil and confusion that fell on the Gigantis for their opression and pride in building the Tower of Babylon, confound them and all their works, for their open callous disregard and opression.

May all the plagues that fell upon Pharoah and his people of Egypt, their lands, crops and cattle, fall upon them, their equipment, their places, their lands, their crops and livestock.

May the waters of the Tweed and other waters which they use, drown them, as the Red Sea drowned King Pharoah and the people of Egypt, preserving God's people of Israel.

May the earth open, split and cleave, and swallow them straight to hell, as it swallowed cursed Dathan and Abiron, who disobeyed Moses and the command of God.

May the wild fire that reduced Thore and his followers to two-hundred-fifty in number, and others from 14,000 to 7,000 at anys, usurping against Moses and Aaron, servants of God, suddenly burn and consume them daily, for opposing the commands of God and Holy Church.

May the malediction that suddenly fell upon fair Absolom, riding through the wood against his father, King David, when the branches of a tree knocked him from his horse and hanged him by the hair, fall upon these untrue Scotsmen and hang them the same way, that all the world may see.

May the malediction that fell upon Nebuchadnezzar's lieutenant, Olifernus, making war and savagery upon true christian men; the malediction that fell upon Judas, Pilate, Herod, and the Jews that crucified Our Lord; and all the plagues and troubles that fell on the city of Jerusalem therefore, and upon Simon Magus for his treachery, bloody Nero, Ditius Magcensius, Olibrius, Julianus Apostita and the rest of the cruel tyrants who slew and murdered Christ's holy servants, fall upon them for their cruel tyranny and murder of Christian people.

And may all the vengeance that ever was taken since the world began, for open sins, and all the plagues and pestilence that ever fell on man or beast, fall on them for their openly evil ways, senseless slaughter and shedding of innocent blood.

I sever and part them from the church of God, and deliver them immediately to the devil of hell, as the Apostle Paul delivered Corinth. I bar the entrance of all places they come to, for divine service and ministration of the sacraments of holy church, except the sacrament of infant baptism, only; and I forbid all churchmen to hear their confession or to absolve them of their sins, until they are first humbled / subjugated by this curse.

I forbid all christian men or women to have any company with them, eating, drinking, speaking, praying, lying, going, standing, or in any other deed-doing, under the pain of deadly sin.

I discharge all bonds, acts, contracts, oaths, made to them by any persons, out of loyalty, kindness, or personal duty, so long as they sustain this cursing, by which no man will be bound to them, and this will be binding on all men.

I take from them, and cast down all the good deeds that ever they did, or shall do, until they rise from this cursing.

I declare them excluded from all matins, masses, evening prayers, funerals or other prayers, on book or bead (rosary); of all pigrimages and alms deeds done, or to be done in holy church or be christian people, while this curse is in effect.

And, finally, I condemn them perpetually to the deep pit of hell, there to remain with Lucifer and all his fellows, and their bodies to the gallows of Burrow moor, first to be hanged, then ripped and torn by dogs, swine, and other wild beasts, abominable to all the world. And their candle (light of their life) goes from your sight, as may their souls go from the face of God, and their good reputation from the world, until they forebear their open sins, aforesaid, and rise from this terrible cursing and make satisfaction and penance."

52. Faith based reasoning can't be swayed by evidence.
It seems to have become a point of honor lately among the absurdly pious, that no amount of evidence ever can change their minds on a subject. I can't see this being congruent with true religious striving (whose purpose is the search for truth, after all); rather it is a sign of superstitious magical thinking. Or the cynical denial of facts in the service of nefarious political ends.

71. Yes but...
... Fundies (and people who think like them) will be the first to use science WHEN THE EVIDENCE SUPPORTS THEM. This is what make them so disingenuous. They take the bits and pieces of science that suit them, and then appeal to blind faith for the parts that don't. Their so-called "Intelligent Design" argument does this.

Let's say, for example that somehow the autopsy report had not shown that Terri's brain had atrophied. Then what would the Fundies (and the W.H) be arguing about the autopsy results?

58. if they want to stand on the side of defending life, they'd better support
the vaccine for HPV, which can protect millions of women from deadly cervical cancer.

if they don't support that vaccine, they are guilty of a culture of death. it's that simple. watch them, and accuse them the moment they block money for this vaccine.

69. OK let me get this straight...
... Bush and his minions still maintain that her condition could have been reversible with therapy... while the autopsy showed that her brain had atrophied (as most people strongly suspected) to 1/2 its normal size?

What are they gonna do? Argue that black is white? Up is down? Oh yeah... they already do that anyway.

I mean, what more proof does anyone need that Bush and Co. do not see or process any facts that do not agree with their own little twisted realities?

Why don't they keep pressing for her to come back to life? The odds are about the same...

68. Hey, George, let's say I'm incinerated in a horrible accident...
... and the only body part left is my hand. Would you pump fluids into the veins to keep it alive as it represents "precious life?"

How about my eyeball? I swear if you look at it long enough, it will blink at you. Will you make sure it's intravenously supported?

Might as well just pack up your bags, bro, and head to the Neverland Ranch. You're living in a fantasy world!
