Republican Releases Some Info on Bolton

A leading Republican sought Wednesday to end the Senate impasse over John Bolton's nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations by providing Democrats with some information about secret intelligence intercepts they sought.


Democrats rejected the effort by Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, saying it wasn't enough for them to move forward on Bolton's nomination.

Roberts said he attempted "one last good faith effort to alleviate the concerns" of Democrats.


The Kansas Republican said he drew up a list of seven names that Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee seemed to be most concerned about and asked National Intelligence Director John Negroponte to compare those names with people mentioned in the intercepts.


"He has assured me that none of them are among the names requested by Undersecretary Bolton," Roberts said.

Are the democrats still leaving that foolish deal on the table? We'll just ask Negreponte if certain things were in the intel, and hope he tells us the truth? Don't we know the answer to this one already? Negreponte is going to lie no matter what given such a deal. It'd be foolish to think for a minute he wouldn't. The bottom line is, we shouldn't have to play "warmer-colder" to see documents the Senators have every legal right to see!
