Spain arrests suspected Islamist militants

Sixteen suspected Islamist militants have been arrested in Spain, the Interior Ministry says.

Five of the men were suspected of being linked to the March 2004 train bombings in Madrid in which nearly 200 people died.

The other 11 were linked to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al-Qa'eda's leader in Iraq, the ministry added.

More than 500 police were involved in the operation in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Cadiz.
