Minutemen group stirring controversy in Hamblen Co.

June 14, 2005

By SHASTA CLARK
6 News Reporter

HAMBLEN COUNTY (WATE) -- You may have heard of the Minutemen, groups that take it on themselves to guard the nation's borders against illegal aliens. Now, the Minutemen are in East Tennessee and they're stirring up controversy.

This group calls themselves the Tennessee Volunteer Minutemen. But they say others call them a hate group.

...

But another supporter told a different story. Off-camera, James Drinnon says there are more Mexicans than African-Americans in Hamblen County. But he didn't really say African-American. He used the "N" word.

On camera, Drinnon says, "I think they ought to get them all out. Most of them in here. That's where all the dope's coming from. Most of them's Hispanic."

1. This does not surprise me one bit.
East TN has a very fast growing Hispanic population.

Unfortunately there are also a huge amount of people in this area who are nothing but a bunch of bigots! Yea, it's the Hispanic folks who are "bringing in the dope"... why don't they ask that asshole who it is making all the Meth around here? The stupid ass Rednecks that's who!

It's really difficult living in the South these days.

2. It's the same old story, they're taking our jobs, they'll rape our
women, etc. I'm not making excuses but my family lives in an isolated area of east tennessee and it is very hard when a new culture moves in. They don't trust new people of any sort and especially not a new ethnic group.

4. Probably the same cast of characters - without the hoodies.
the bright side to America's madness is that all the loonies are coming out of hiding.

5. Actually, they may well be...
... just another, non-official branch of the KKK. There are so many idiots in this world taht are all to eager to follow that line of thinking. It's easy to blame those who are "funny-lookin'" for ones problems.

7. Reply
If you read the article that was quoted you will see that the idiots in Tenn. are not "The Minutemen". They simply have the word "Minutemen" in the title of their name.

I'm not trying to defend either group, just trying to clarify that we are talking about two different groups, albeit vaguely similar in scope.

Regards,

-Fergus

8. Who are they going to report them to?
INS refuses to deal with "less than a busload" of illegal immigrants at a time. And the Border Patrol isn't going to send agents to Tennessee because there is no border there.
