G8 draft climate text watered down

LONDON (Reuters) - A new draft communique on climate change for next month's Group of Eight summit has removed plans to fund research and put into question top scientists' warnings that global warming is already under way.

The text seen by Reuters, titled Gleneagles Plan of Action and dated June 14, has been watered down from a previous draft which itself had no specific targets or timetables for action.
<snip>

"The text is getting weaker and weaker. There are no targets, no timetables, no standards -- and even the money is gone," a source close to the negotiations told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

"You are looking at a very, very serious problem for Blair," the source added.

<snip>
The new draft starkly illustrates the weakening process that has gone on in just six weeks.

An introductory paragraph has moved the statement "our world is warming" into square brackets and has given the same treatment to a statement from the world's top scientists that climate change is already under way and demands urgent action.

1. Bastards the longer they ignore it the worse it will be and the madder
people will be when it happens.

I guess we couldn't expect much from the G8 anyway, i mean it's mostly their fault to begin with.

Kick for importance.

3. You can blame the G1 (America). The rest accept the science
and are pushing for action. All are signed up to Kyoto and most want to take things further.

The Bush mob like oil, cars and money too much.

uh hu the market'll sort it out. Certainly will they'll make a killing selling radiation suits to stop us frying and snorkells so we don't drown.

Thats why i and a million others are going to Gleneagles.

2. My brain hurts...
"Not only is Earth absorbing about 0.85 Watts of energy per square meter more than it is radiating back to space, but a sizable chunk of that excess energy is “hiding” in Earth’s oceans, its full effect on the climate system still unrealized."
