Car bomb in west Baghdad kills 6 police commandos
17 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A car bomb exploded next to an Iraqi police commando convoy in western Baghdad on Thursday, killing six police and wounding 25 others, police said.

The blast occurred on Baghdad's airport road, one of the most dangerous stretches in the country where roadside and suicide bombs are detonated almost every day.

A source in the Iraqi Interior Ministry said most of those wounded were police.

There has been a surge in suicide bombings and other attacks over the past seven weeks, since a new Shi'ite-led government was formed, with most of them targeting Iraqi security forces.

1. 2 years later and the U.S./Iraqi forces STILL can't secure that road
What's cab fare running? Something between $2000-3000 one way?

2. I'm still waiting for them to throw flowers and wave American flags.
Where are the teeming throngs of grateful Iraqis hugging American troops and dancing in the streets? Do we have to watch films of the liberation of Paris in 1944 to remember what it was like? Even the German people were far more welcoming to American troops.

3. "....even the German People were far more welcoming to American troops"
That comment made me laugh. I remember watching the newsreel in the local theater, I was twelve then.

:hi:

4. Yep. Remember the film of the Italians crying with joy ...
... when Rome was finally occupied by American and British troops? I'll never forget one particular middle-aged, balding man crying with joy and cheering the arrival of the allied troops.

Troops rode around in open jeeps. I don't recall heavily-armed convoys of tanks and armored vehicles two years after the occupation. Allied troops, tourists, and journalists traveled everywhere with virtually no notable concern for their safety.

5. Spitting on the graves of 5 dead Marines!
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 09:39 AM by dArKeR
I told you last night minutes after the 5 dead Marines story broke!

The dead Marines story wouldn't break in the USA until it was buried in another story. In this case not even mentioned except in the fine print associated pic. God bless the Christians who support the GOP!

6. I hope that the resistance refrains from targetting non-combatants.
Police and military and government officials are legitimate war targets. Shiite worshippers are not. If the resistance hopes to unite the Iraqi people against occupation and collaboration, they must not attack the people. I think that some of them do want sectarian war, others like Sadr do not.
