Pirates raid supertanker at Iraq's Basra
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L16679135.htm

LONDON, June 16 (Reuters) - Armed pirates raided a supertanker anchored close to Iraq's Basra oil export terminal in the early hours of Wednesday, in the latest serious security breach at the facility.

Gulf Agency Company (GAC) said the raid comes only two weeks after pirates attacked the crew of a supertanker waiting to load crude oil at the southern deep water terminal where most of Iraq's crude oil is exported.

Exports from Basra provide nearly all of Iraq's income.

"The alert was sounded when watchmen found three men carrying long knives, a rifle and a machine gun on board the vessel. The pirates fled in a speed boat and no causalties have been reported," GAC said.

1. I suppose raiding a supertanker is a lot more glamorous than stealing tuna
Not sure if it's more profitable, though.

2. Why pirates and not terrorists or insurgents?
Is it some sort of water thing? Whoever attacks on water is a pirate?

9. Why wouldn't trained professional Media Whores ask the same question?
We all read the articles in which the WH issued memos to the press corps and the Media corporations telling them which words are acceptable to publish and which are NOT. The Media Whores were told specifically not to use the word, "rebel"... la la la la. They were told to use "terrorist", "insurgent"...

I can tell you why the Media Whore manipulating Meyers/aWol allowed this "pirate" story to publish. In this case calling them "pirates" makes it look fun/adventurous. Calling them insurgents/terrorist shows how incompentent Meyers/aWol are in dealing with Iraq. Shows how dangerous, out-of-control of the US and in control of the rebels Iraq actually is. If the USA Military can't prevent a ship hijacking in Iraq I think a ship could be hijacked in secondes with ease in any place on the seas, lakes, rivers.

Meyers/aWol can't secure a ship in Iraq! I hope this gets some honest journalists thinking! Just imagine how easy it would be to secure a floating ship with all our technology. I would guess 4 Marines could do it.

16. Terrorism is when civilians are intentionally targeted for a
political end.

Robbery on the water is called pirating.

up with Websters.

If you have some evidence as to who the pirates are and what their motivations are, you might forward that to the appropriate authorites..until then, it just looks to me as if you are using the term "terrorism" incorrectly.

I don't care, I just thought you might be interested in honing your vocabulary.

32. The last time I looked, we don't have any "children" in Iraq....
...they may have been kids when they arrived, but I'm sure that notion was dispelled rather quickly.

And yes, crime still exists even in a combat zone.

17. Yes: Pirates raid second tanker at Iraq terminal
(LONDON) Pirates boarded a two-million-barrel oil tanker docked outside Iraq's largest export terminal in the Persian Gulf before being repulsed by the crew, the ship's operators said. It was the second incident in the past month.

The attackers boarded the Indian-flagged Prem Putli, owned by Mercator Lines Ltd, on Tuesday night as it waited to load oil at Iraq's Basra terminal, Atul J Agarwal, joint managing director of the Mumbai-based company, said. Nobody was injured in the incident, he said.

Robbers with AK-47 rifles on May 31 attacked the master of a tanker anchored outside Iraq's Basra Terminal, which exports most of the country's oil, and escaped with US$42,000.

The Prem Putli, a very large crude carrier, is leased to Indian Oil Corp, the country's biggest refiner. It was one of seven vessels waiting to load at the Basra facility. - Bloomberg

21. This is very interesting, considering...
That these deepwater terminals have US military units deployed on the terminals and are surrounded by Navy and Coast Guard vessels. With some serious detection equipment, I would imagine.

Someone done got really slack.

It could be "intended effect" or it could have been a SEAL Team 6 security audit penetration. Team 6 has been traditionally tasked to perform security audit penetrations.
