Woman alleges congressman abused her (more Repub family values)
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 08:51 AM by maxrandb
Wow! First there's porn stars at dinners with the pResident, then there's an upstanding Republican choking and beating the shit out of his mistress.

Again. What Will We Tell the Children???

http://www.macon.com/mld/macon/news/nation/11908988.htm

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - (KRT) - U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood repeatedly punched and choked a Maryland woman during a "five-year intimate relationship" with her, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday.

The complaint states that throughout the long-term relationship, Sherwood repeatedly struck Ore on her face, neck, chest and back; violently yanked her hair; and tried to strangle her by placing his hands around her neck.

Ore has previously stated she met Sherwood in 1999 at a Young Republicans event. (my bold)

Sherwood assaulted Ore inside his Hill House apartment, a complex occupied mostly by members of Congress, on the morning of June 24, 2004. (again, bold is mine)

I bet there are things going on at that complex that would even make Republican Mary Carey blush.

Can't wait for Rush to tell us Rep Sherwood was "just blowing off some steam", "just doing what happens at most frat parties", etc.

The Sherwood flap

A Teflon Don, or a liability? exclusive

The congressman’s reported ‘domestic incident’ has some Democrats licking their chops for ’06. GOP says good luck.

By BRETT MARCY bmarcy@leader.net

HARRISBURG – U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood has apparently become a target for the Democrats, who say a “domestic incident” with a 29-year-old woman has left him vulnerable in his district.

Still, even loyal Democratic Party officials concede the four-term Tunkhannock Republican will be hard to beat.

“We certainly think he’s vulnerable,” said Sarah Feinberg, spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “We’ve had several Democrats who have contacted us with an interest in running against him.”

Democratic Party officials say at least one Democrat in the 10th Congressional District plans to mount a serious challenge to Sherwood.

However, Republicans say they’re not sweating Democratic opposition in Sherwood’s district.

6. No bias in little Brett's reporting, eh? A Republican Congressman
beats up a Republican mistress, yet it's:
"U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood has apparently become a target for the Democrats."

Sherwood ‘sorry’ for pain to family

EXCLUSIVE: U.S. representative was accused of choking a woman, 29, to whom he was giving a back rub in his Washington apartment.

By KEVIN AMERMAN and BRETT MARCY Times Leader staff writers

WASHINGTON – Three days after it was reported he was involved in a domestic dispute that triggered a 911 call from a 29-year-old woman in his Washington apartment, U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood apologized for causing his family and supporters “pain and embarrassment.”

“I’m truly sorry. Now, I have work to do. I’m going to continue to work hard for the people of the 10th Congressional District, and to begin the healing process with my family.”

Sherwood, 64, did not explain his relationship with the woman or say why she was in his apartment. He has called her a “casual acquaintance.”

The woman, Cynthia Ore of Rockville, Md., says Sherwood has been her lover since 1999.

“When I met him he told me he was getting a divorce,” Ore has said.

Maybe he should ask youthfully indiscreet Henry Hyde for advice.

12. Ore will be discredited before he will
because she stayed in the relationship for so long after being abused. Sorry, but that is the way this will play out, if it makes any waves at all.

14. Md. Woman Files Suit Vs. Rep. Sherwood (Ore says Rep. abused her)
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050616/ap_on_go_co/congressman_abuse_suit_1

Ore has said the two met at a Young Republicans event and began a relationship in 1999. She claims in the lawsuit filed Wednesday that she and Sherwood lived together in his apartment much of the time between then and last September. The suit says she remained in the relationship despite the alleged assaults because Sherwood promised to marry her and start a family.

Police were called to Sherwood's apartment Sept. 15. According to the police report, Ore called 911 on her cell phone from the bathroom and reported that Sherwood had "choked her for no apparent reason." Both parties said he was giving her a back rub, but he said she "jumped up" and ran to the bathroom.

The report said Ore had no physical evidence of injury but "did not seem to be of sound mind." It added that "both parties have left out significant information or are not willing to discuss in detail what actually happened."
