Bush to meet with Iraq prime minister

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Slow progress in training Iraqi security forces will be a key issue at President Bush's meeting at the White House June 24 with Iraq's Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari.

The Bush administration has insisted that a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops cannot be considered until Iraq's own forces are strong enough to protect their country from insurgents.

"The president and prime minister will discuss progress in training the Iraqi security forces, the Iraqi people's achievements in building a democratic state, the status of drafting of the new Iraqi constitution and ongoing cooperation on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.

On Capitol Hill, a small bipartisan group in the House, including a Republican who voted for war, is urging Bush to start bringing home U.S. troops from Iraq by Oct. 1, 2006. Two Republicans and two Democrats in the House are expected to introduce a resolution Thursday calling for withdrawal. It is the first such resolution put forth by lawmakers from both parties, although an overwhelming number of Democrats and six House Republicans voted in 2002 against sending troops to Iraq.

1. In D.C.? Why not Baghdad? It's so safe over there. What w/Saddam in jail.
The resistance is in its "last throes".

"We're winning."

"We're making really good progress."

I don't understand why he doesn't fly to Baghdad.
