Commencement talk sparks new phrase game

CAMBRIDGE, MA – When TV newsman Tim Russert gave a commencement address at Harvard last week, his talk was punctuated with occasional calls of “Bingo!” Then the callers marked off cards containing key phrases collected from transcripts of Russert’s past speeches.

The game being played, “Tim Russert Bingo,” was the brainchild of 2005 graduate Max Brodsky, who got the idea after reading an article in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette that noted Russert, who spoke at Holy Cross College last month, has been delivering virtually the same speech at commencement ceremonies for the past five years. According to the Harvard Crimson, Brodsky felt the need to "rib Russert a little for his lack of spontaneity and the fact that most of his speech is totally recycled."

Beyond that, he said the prank was a response to “the conservative choice of Tim Russert for Class Day, which usually calls for a funny, more lighthearted speaker." However, one of his classmates, David Ferris, who helped Brodsky organize the game, thought the speaker still came through with a great speech that did speak to the moment – just as it probably has for moments since 1986."

Bull Shit Bingo for our Nursing staff meetings. They are alot of fun. Hey, you pull a bunch of us off the floor (when we are stretched to the limnit)or in after working a 12 hr night shift and you are just asking for it. Good for them, they really did make good use of their education.
