SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Brunswick Corp., (BC) the Lake Forest, Ill., leisure-products company, said it would move its bowling-ball output to Mexico from Muskegon, Mich., cutting 115 jobs. Brunswick said the move would costs $7 million over two years. Once the move is complete in 2007, it will save the company $5 million to $6 million annually, Brunswick said. Brunswick cited "relatively high labor costs" for the move. The "cost difference between the current and future sites of ball production is substantial," it said. Brunswick will keep its 275 bowling sales and support staffers in Michigan.

1. Muskegon is a town I am very familiar with. Its economy was based on
automotive and industrial products. The automotive side is just about gone with Textron and Teledyne closing shop and this should completely eviscerate the local economy. The only things I see whenever I go visit old friends and relative are bars. The place is trying to come back with tourism. I hope they succeed but you can bet that the old jobs that paid well are no longer going to be there.

3. At least bowling balls will be cheaper.
Hahaha. Right. I forgot about the part where they keep prices the same.

Oh well. Unemployed Americans probably don't bowl much anyway.
