Ohio Fund scandal halts rebates
COLUMBUS | The investment scandal at the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation claimed a victim Thursday — approximately 275,000 private employers who won't get a proposed $70 million rebate on the premiums they pay into the insurance fund for injured workers.

The Ohio Workers' Compensation Oversight Commission voted 3-0 — with one member abstaining — to reject a staff recommendation for the rebate. Instead, the insurance rate for private employers will increase 4.4 percent overall on July 1.

Interim Administrator Tina Kielmeyer said it was the first time the commission had rejected such a staff recommendation.

"I know that 98 percent of the fund is secure," said Commissioner Thomas Bainbridge Jr., a Columbus attorney who represents employees. "I think it would be prudent to wait another six months. I think if we err, we should err on the side of caution."

1. Ohio seems to be nothing but scandal these days
Reminds me of Florida. Wonder how much of the illegal money deals in those states went towards buying off officials and rigging the elections of 2000 - 2004?
