Apprehension over the war in Iraq surged Thursday as a group of lawmakers demanded that President Bush develop plans to withdraw troops and a top Pentagon official expressed concern about sagging public support for the U.S. military effort.After a deadly increase in violence in Iraq, congressional critics of the war grew more vocal in demanding a change in policy, and antiwar activists staged a rally near the White House.

The White House said Bush planned to deliver a speech this month on the importance of the U.S. mission, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pledged to work harder to explain the administration's objectives. "I'm going to, like I think all members of the administration, perhaps try to do more to get out to the public to talk about what it is we are trying to achieve and what it is we are achieving," Rice said at a news conference. "So I would say this is not going to be an American enterprise for the long term."

The setbacks have triggered growing concern at the Pentagon, where a senior general said he was worried about declining public support. "It is concerning that our public isn't as supportive as perhaps they once were," said Marine Lt. Gen. James T. Conway, director of operations for the Pentagon's Joint Staff. "We'd like, I believe, to try to reverse those figures and start the trend back the other direction. Because it's extremely important to the soldier and the Marine, the airman and the sailor over there, to know that their country's behind them."

They fell for lies, were easily manipulated, believed the results of their actions would be helpful to people important to them, got uglier with the power of their hate. At least that was my take on the last Star Wars, Anakin was not Bush, he at least started out good.

Maybe this is either an incredible bias on my part, but I find the fact that she plays piano very well and she has a PhD certainly a sign she isn't stupid. Also, her sister is prominent and very liberal civil rights lawyer in LA so there are certainly brains in her genetic makeup. And although her actions throughout the Bush administration have been genuinely evil, I strongly hesitate to give in to officially call her "stupid." "Misguided," "odd," "questionable," "evil," in my opinion all fit. But being a musician myself, a woman with her PhD that plays piano is pretty hot stuff. I just wish she wwasn't so evil :-\

So maybe it's the fact that she jsut had good connections or knew the right people that got her into these positions, but I am not convinced anybody with their PhD AND is a musician is genuinely stupid. Just a personal bias of mine. Can't really convince you of anything and I don't think I have. But....... She's interesting; and it interests me even more somebody in her position will support the bills she has. She's interesting, certainly evil, but interesting.

(disclaimer: My cousin gave me the rumor that her PhD is in music. I looked up her bigoraphy and it turns out to be in Poli Sci...)

WASHINGTON -- The emotive and charged word "impeachment" was voiced
yesterday on Capitol Hill as a clutch of Democratic congressmen, backed
by distraught mothers of soldiers slain in Iraq, put together a piece of
theatre that could become the summer's political drama.

John Bonifaz, a self-styled constitutional lawyer and anti-war activist, suggested
there are sufficient grounds to launch an inquiry into whether the President should
be impeached for lying to Congress about the justification for the war.

"The United States House of Representatives has a constitutional duty to
investigate fully and comprehensively the evidence revealed by the Downing
Street minutes and other related evidence, and to determine whether there are
sufficient grounds to impeach George W. Bush, the President of the United States,"
Mr. Bonifaz said.

Cindy Sheehan, mother of a soldier killed in Iraq and founder of the Gold Star
Families for Peace, accused Mr. Bush of waging a "needless, senseless" war and
"betraying" servicemen like her son, Casey, killed in action in Baghdad in April of
2004.
