U.S. closes its Nigerian embassy on security threat

LAGOS (Reuters) - The United States closed its Nigerian embassy in Abuja and consulate in Lagos on Friday due to a "security incident" which is being investigated by Nigerian police, an embassy spokesman said.

A diplomatic source said intelligence indicated that foreign militants posed a specific threat to the U.S. presence in Nigeria, the world's eighth largest oil exporter which was named by Osama bin Laden as a candidate for "liberation."

"The embassy is reacting to a security incident and we thought it prudent to close," said an embassy spokesman, adding that he had no information on the nature of the incident.

1. Our empire is looking shakier by the minute.
We are over-extended militarily and economically. Across the planet the pipelines that feed both our military and our SUV-economy run through hostile lands. Our mercenary army is pinned down in the collosal iraqi blunder. We are spread thin defending bases strung out across the planet. Iran and Korea, and it seems Saudi Arabia march forward with their nuclear weapons programs unhindered. China, Russia, and the emerging second world industrial nations like Brazil are developing an independent vision of the future of the 'Global Economy' that does not include American Hegemony.

Everyone can see the gathering storm, but our leaders pretend that it is blue skies all around.
