White House Stands By Private Accounts
Story Send Us Your Comments

By Alex Keto

Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Bush administration Friday brushed aside a report that Republican leaders in Congress have given up on the effort to create personal savings accounts as part of Social Security reform because of a lack of support for the idea on Capitol Hill.

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and House Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas, R-Calif., have both concluded that the personal savings accounts are too unpopular to pass in legislation.

As the Republican leaders search for an alternative approach to President George W. Bush's priority of overhauling social security, Republicans say Bush's best hope is for Thomas to pass a Social Security solvency package with some modest accounts proposal in the House that could yield a compromise in the Senate that sows the seed for Bush-type accounts, according to the Journal report.

However, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush would continue to insist they be included in any effort to reform Social Security.

7. Keto of Dow Jones Newswires is using the phrase "private accounts"
The body of the article says "personal savings accounts" but the title is a deviation from the lockstep. Good for Alex, and good for DJN.

I wonder how long bush keeps sour milk in his refrigerator and how often he tastes it to see if it's returned to its pre-sour condition.

Yeah right, you bloody beast of a dumbass for all time. As for Scott, the closet-gay windup-toy of a liarbot, he should vomiting blood every night from the sheer stress of knowing he's an utter waste and so is everything he's ever done.

wasn't that a big deal for them?

what was their old pet name for this "privatization?" personal investment accounts or some such nonsense?

11. Would the GOP pass this bill just because BushCheney, Inc. want them to?
In other words, what will matter more: Their constituents or their corporate masters?

Especially since many of them have re-election guaranteed by Diebold.

We need to be sure we don't call this "Bush's" social security plan. This needs to be called "The REPUBLICAN Social Security plan."

14. its best if Chimpy keeps on squeaking about private accounts.
In some way he has given the Democrats something to unify against.
I think he is too stupid to see this.
