Dean takes fundraising effort to Texas

WENDY BENJAMINSON

Associated Press

HOUSTON - Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean is taking his party's fundraising efforts to President Bush's backyard - Texas. Dean is scheduled to appear at events in Houston, Austin and Corpus Christi this weekend, taking his message to a Republican stronghold that had been written off by Democrats until Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's ethics problems began.

"Unlike previous years, we're actually going to be spending money in Texas this year," Dean said. "We're in a 50-state battle, not an 18-state battle."

The House ethics committee is investigating whether DeLay violated congressional rules by taking foreign trips paid for by lobbyists. Delay has not been charged with a crime.

Former U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson is running against DeLay next year, the first time in more than 20 years that the congressman has a well-known opponent.

2. Are you sure about that?
I know I heard someone else had entered the race and she was going to think about it, but I have't heard she made a final decision not to run.

4. WOW! I'm surprised. I thought Kay was hell bent on being Gov
and from what I hear, she had a pretty good shot!

Does that mean a Dem might have a good chance there? Perry has been really speeding into the fringes lately, and I think he could be defeated easily with the right candidate!

5. the media value alone
is worth multiple visits to texas -- and let the fire and brimstone rain.

let texamns pick themselves up off the floor with the kind of attacks dean is capapable of.
and bring high powered entourages while you're at it.

trust me the media -- for bettewr or worse couldn't resist -- and there's no such thing as bad pr.

7. way to pick your targets, Dean! woohoo! keep the media busy!
jeb's going to shoot himself in the foot with the Schaivo deal, and that's the only distraction rove's been able to figure lately, what with Michael turning up not guilty.
