Anti-US protestors demand closure of Incirlik Airbase in Turkey

ANKARA, June 18 (Xinhuanet) -- A large group of protestors demonstrated on Saturday outside the Incirlik Airbase in southeastern Turkey, demanding the closure of the airbase, semi-official Anatolia News Agency reported.

Spokesman for the protestors Mehmet Ates said that the U.S. military is currently using the airbase to carry out a massacre inthe Middle East.

"The Incirlik Airbase is being used by the US military for its plans concerning the Middle East. Some 88 percent of the Turkish people are against extending the US right to use it as a logistical hub for operations in Iraq. All foreign bases includingIncirlik must be closed down," he said.

The protestors came to the village by buses under tight security of the Turkish gendarmerie forces. Members of Labor Party,Democratic People's Party, Human Rights Association, Health Workers Union and Socialist Platform of the Oppressed participatedin the massive demonstration.

Greenpeace: The US has nukes at Incirlik
International environmental group Greenpeace yesterday claimed that the U.S. has nuclear bombs at Turkey's Incirlik Airbase. Greenpeace have opened a “Peace Embassy” in the Incirlik area of Adana to publicize the find to the public.

Aslihan Tumer, representative of the Greenpeace Mediterranean Nuclear Disarmament Campaign, made a speech claiming that there are approximately 90 nuclear bombs at Incirlik Airbase, and asked for the bombs to be returned to the U.S.

Tumer stated that the bombs at Incirlik threaten regional stability and global security, adding that their goal is to inform local people on the issue.

Tumer emphasized the possibility that the U.S. may well send more nuclear bombs to Turkey. “Under a censure motion to be presented to the U.S. Senate, the exact location of nuclear bombs on European bases is to be investigated,” said Tumer. “There's the possibility that some nuclear bombs currently stored on European bases may be transferred to Turkey. The motion will be presented to U.S. President Bush on Sept. 23.”

base from 63~66. Things were better then; the locals were pretty nice.

Its a problem when terrorists create bases on your soil and defend
them with terror against the civilian population and government.
However difficult it might seem, it is always best to eject them.
