Suicide Car Bomber Kills Three at Checkpoint North of Iraq's Capital
The Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A suicide car bomber struck an Iraqi military checkpoint north of Baghdad on Sunday, killing two soldiers and one civilian, officials said. Thirteen others were wounded.

The suicide attack occurred at 9:45 a.m. in Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's hometown 80 miles north of Baghdad, Army Capt. Muhanad Ahmed said. The civilian killed was an employee who manned the security checkpoint.

The wounded included eight soldiers and five civilians, Ahmed said. Civilians were near the checkpoint because construction workers were fixing the gate.

Elsewhere, gunmen killed two Iraqi police officers in western Baghdad as they headed to work Sunday morning, while a second band of gunmen killed an electrical engineer who was on his way to work at an oil refinery in the Iraqi capital.

2. Probably. Would be ironic, would it not; not to downplay the tragedy.

3. another update: 10 Iraqi's(2 women) wounded being used as human shields
Ten Iraqis, including two women, were wounded in the crossfire when insurgents entered the homes of families in the area and used them as "human shields," it said in a statement.

"Marines and Iraqi soldiers were unaware of civilians being located in the homes," the military said.

There was no independent confirmation of casualties in the remote region, which is hard for journalists to reach.

5. How about "Marines and Iraqi soldiers didn't give a damn that civilians
civilians were located in the homes," the military said.
