(Democratic &)Republican senators challenge Bush's Iraq optimism
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush needs to tell Americans the nation faces "a long, hard slog" in Iraq, a key Republican senator said on Sunday, and another said the White House was "disconnected from reality" in its optimism over the war.

"Too often we've been told and the American people have been told that we're at a turning point," Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), an Arizona Republican, said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "What the American people should have been told and should be told ... (is that) it's long; it's hard; it's tough."

It's going to be at least a couple more years," said McCain, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee

3. Why should we need a draft?
I mean, I am sure all those war hawk Republicans who were so gung-ho about killin' all them "Eye-Rackys" are signing up in droves! I am sure they are very eager to fight the war that they supported!

Right??

20. As Guards and Secretarial staff
Which means more American troops for combat patrols, what a wonderful idea?

But it still isn't enough to get control of Iraq, everytime the US conducts an offensive in Al Anbar Province(Western Iraq), the insurgents seem to be able to sail right into Baghdad woth little to no opposition.

So there might still need to be a draft, mainly because the Ugnadans
are not going to die for Shrub Asshat!!!!!

"Rice Says Administration Told Americans Iraq Would Be A “Generational Committment".

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was asked if “the Bush administration fairly be criticized for failing to level with the American people about how long and difficult this commitment will be?”

They said the 'war on terror (to acquire the planets major oil supplies)' would be a generational commitment. They said the war in Iraq would take 'months, not years'. I'm surely not the only one to remember that comment from Rumsfuck!

I wish these politicians would stop talking about this war as if it's some stale piece of beef jerkey. Shut up with the cliches already and get to work on a solution to bring our troops home.

15. The imagery seemed pretty sexualized.
I don't know if it was subconscious on his part or not. Republicans seem to have a peculiar tendency to do this. Maybe a result of an ideology based on repression.

19. Well, John McCain should
shut his big mouth. Notice his statement, "It's going to be at least a couple more years".

How nice. Just 2 more years. OR --------

maybe not? Maybe 20 more years. That's more like it.

McCain is not much better than Bush. He just wants to be the one who's doing the bashing.

21. McCain: U.S. in Iraq 2 More Years ("....should be told in reality")

McCain Expects U.S. in Iraq 2 More Years

----------------
Washington (AP) - A leading Republican senator said Sunday it probably would take "at least a couple more years" before enough Iraqis are capable of securing their country, a prime condition set by the Bush administration for beginning to withdraw U.S. troops. "I don't think Americans believe that we should cut and run out of Iraq by any stretch of the imagination," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

"But I think they also would like to be told, in reality, what's going on. And, by the way, I think part of that is it's going to be at least a couple more years," said McCain, the No. 2 Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

(snip)

"I think we should tell people it's not going to be short," McCain said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

23. McCain : US in Iraq "10 or 20 years...that's not so bad"
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 06:12 PM by EVDebs
When asked this week (Sept 4, 2004) on CNN how long the U.S. military is likely to remain in Iraq, Senator John McCain replied "probably" 10 or 20 years. "That's not so bad," he said

and now the US is building 14 enduring bases

14 `enduring bases' set in Iraq
Long-term military presence planned

28. McCain knows about those 'enduring bases' and who's going to man them
How long will the Republican party continue with the lies ? McCain should not even think of running in '08. He knows his original "10, 20 years...that's not so bad" is what he really meant.

29. Hard work...gonna be hard work. Yeah, we got that message already
from your boss, McCain.

If you want to be really honest tell people that you have no better idea what changes two years from now will bring than you did at the outset.

After the first two years the situation is actually worse, with nothing much to show for it at all except some stupid purple fingers that you talk far too much about and 1700+ dead soldiers who you hardly mention at all.

Now you're saying two more years will make all the difference.

Why should we believe you now? Give us a friggin' reason.

Jerk.

30. What's this shit about until they can "secure their own country"?
Securing their country against whom?

Who wants that country now that the U.S. has made bloody hash out of it. I don't buy this

crap. This is being done in the hope that insurgents will give up. It's their country and they

will not give in. If your country is where civilization began in so many ways, would you let

anyone dominate you in every way? Kill your children, ruin your places of worship, steal

your oil, let your cultural heritage be plundered by thieves, dictate laws that determine

your future economically, hire their corrupt friends to supposedly rebuild your country-

and not any of your own people in a substantial way-and then botch the job so badly you

don't even have electricity most of the day? McCain, you will fry in the lowest ring of Hades

along with Bush.

McCain said "at least a couple more years." There have been plenty of estimates suggesting the U.S. will be in Iraq for 10 years.
