Defence Minister Senator Robert Hill has sidestepped questions in the Senate about what the Government knew of the alleged use of napalm-like firebombs by the United States in Iraq.
Democrats Leader Senator Lyn Allison has asked the Government to explain what it knew about the 30 firebombs used in the attack. She has also asked how many Iraqis were killed or injured.
Senator Hill says members of the US-led Coalition have pledged to carry out the military objectives in the most humanitarian way and he is sure the US would comply with its international obligations.
"In fact, I am confident that it would exceed its obligations under the international conventions because its basic values are ones of a humanitarian response and requirement to achieve the military objectives in the best possible ways," he said.
