http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-leb21.htmlBEIRUT, Lebanon-- The anti-Syrian opposition's election victory is certain to reshape Lebanon's politics, but that doesn't mean this small country is finally out of Syria's shadow. At least not yet.
Despite international pressure and the withdrawal of its army, Syria continues to wield some influence, albeit a waning one, through its friends and supporters.
The assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri four months ago galvanized the Lebanese people to take to the streets in mass anti-Syrian protests, leading to the troop withdrawal.
Now, the opposition has swept into control of the legislature. Headed by Hariri's son, Saad, and Druse leader Walid Jumblatt, the opposition has a majority of 72 seats out of 128 in Parliament after the four-stage election that ended Sunday.
